Actually I think that it is possible that this is FILM tools related since editing and exporting could be FILM tools possibly.

    SO I will say this.

Very nice short, I really enjoyed it and it was a shame to see it rendered INTERLACED.

At some point during capture or exporting, interlacing was added and this could have happened at several points. depending on the software used.

Did you use FINAL CUT or another program.

Best to re- export and choose DEinterlace from one of the many options from your NLE software.

Since I am here I will add, shots I liked Fans blades looking down on child, empty hallway(Kubrickish)
SHot from top of building watching the boy enter ( good objective perspective )
Running off the building and the airplane shadow, fantastic and compelling.

The only short coming I think is the opener of the woman, since I am not sure of why and can only assume she is sick, if you have any other footage that would show more of her character and story, then I would feel the connection between her and the boy. This would increase the pathos of the ending.

    Cheers

    Grokgod,
So nice to recived this kind of critic I really appreciated!
I used FCP for editing but I don't now what's "rendered interlaced"

Hope to get more of your critics in my others and future works.
    Best.

It's my pleasure and I hope that I was helpful.
There are a great many fine shots in this short and I am sure that when you restore the film aspect of the footage since it was actually shot with film.

It will restore the actual beauty of motion that is so finely captured by film, and raise the shorts visual quality to it's original level.

It may be best to recapture the footage if possible.

For people like me who doesn't know what's "rendered interlaced" here is some information for FCP users:

I will render all my videos again, Thanks Grokgod.

Wow! Poignant piece. The first thing that sprung to mind was... "Where does depression hurt? Every where. Who does depression hurt, Every one.

Wow... such a strong voice, this piece. Excellent job.

I agree, B&W let you play in a different way that color, it's incredible how effective are the atmospheres in this kind of film.

Hauntingly beautiful. They really teach you well at that school. B&W is certainly more poetic.

Actually this short and "UNPACKED" were filmed at NY city when I was studying at the NYFA, was a great school and a very nice experience for me.

I rarely get into the city. I prefer the farm country of Dutchess Co. Lots of nice things here, like flying, rowing. I'll watch for your next production.

    Some time sad is okay;)
The music of this short is from Andrea Bocelli, when I was a child, my mother used to listen that song over and over again, strange memory...

Ooof! This got me in my solar-plexus. What a powerful emotional entreaty.

There are so many things about this video that make it successful.

Foreshadowing: The aviator cap used as the boy's eccentricity, and the boy watching the plane and passing the 'STOP' sign on the road are both clever foreshadowing.

Using the shadow of the plane early on is a great tie-in to the end.

The abstract aerial shot just before 2:30... I couldn't tell what it was at first, but it soon resolved itself with the entrance of the boy. I thought this was an effective convention: it caused me to have a small epiphany, which, in hindsight, foreshadowed my reaction to the entire plot of the movie.

I liked the different textures of sound: the music [I love that piece], the silent hall with the click of his shoes, the rhythmic sound of the fan... like a heartbeat. And there again... an effective use of shadows. The boy was mesmerized by it... peering into a world he didn't know, but desired because it was an escape from where he was.

I have to say, I knew what was going to happen from the time he began climbing the ladder to the roof, but it didn't detract from the effect, as a matter of fact, it caused increased emotional turmoil in me, hoping he 'wouldn't do it.' Then seeing his frail, half-naked/ exposed body with arms outstretched, welcoming a misguided salvation, I was moved to tears before he took the first step, and once he did, it felt like my lungs filled with cotton and my heart sank. I wanted to reach out and keep him from jumping.

Using the shadow of the plane crossing his mother's face was a really effective way of dealing with his fall.
And then another 'resolution' using that abstract aerial shot. I think this is outstanding. It's successful in so many ways: visually, allegorically, emotionally, and acoustically. This is a very thoughtful and thought-provoking piece... bravo.

... and I'd be remiss if I didn't congratulate the actors; excellent job.

This was powerful stuff Jorge ! When I saw the boy in the oversized air force helmet I assumed it was his fathers. Then seeing his mother, I thought the father dead. Neither she nor he could live with this. The whole piece came together. You will have a fine career in this field.

    hello
i watched your film. and the compositions of the picture and the light looks looks good! ( please deinterlace as many others said!)
the walking sequence from scool to home is long.
out of what purpose did you create this sequence so long? At 4:30 you have a camera tilt, which i would have cut out!
what is the motivation of the boy to be like this? how is his relation to the women, which is on the bed?
as i said great pictures, special story... but about the
cutting and acting i am not so sure...

We all crave to be noticed. When we cease to be noticed, we cease to be. How sad. What a beautiful portrait of this sadness! Thank you. The visuals and music compliment each other perfectly in the time frame given.

    Nice!
No foreshadowing here, I first thought he was going to take a sunbath or something
Only thing that occured to me, if he would have jumped at running speed he would not have landed that close to the house. And I would expect some blood spats.
  • JORGEFRIED 3 months ago
hahahah, you are completely right about the running, never thought about it:D
I feel that the blood spats it's to explicit for this story.
