I had the opportunity to use and test the video capability of the new Canon EOS 5D Mark II for Bird Photography and Wildlife Photography.

The 5D Mark II is a pre-production demo unit lent by Canon Philippines to the Bird Photographers Group in the Philippines to determine it's applicability in Wildlife photography in general and Bird Photography in particular.

The shot was taken with 5D Mark II mated to a Canon EF 400mm f/2.8 IS L Lens plus a 2x Teleconverter, effectively providing for an 800mm focal length with f/5.6 aperture @ISO 3200.

  • Nice shots....and nice guitar music, but I still haven't heard the natural sound that the EOS 5D Mk2 records - do you have a version with the sound that was recorded - did it pick up the bird's tweeting and the ambient noise well?

Hi. I was also hoping to hear the recorded sound when I first checked the footage when I imported them. Unfortunately, either the microphone was muted when I recorded it, or there are settings during playback that were disabled. We'll try to look again.
    Thanks

this is great, the colours and dynamic range are outstanding.
It seems to be a little over exposed on the birds chest, but the greatest thing of the canon 5d mkII is that you should be able to post process that out by decreasing the levels a bit because it records in such high quality!

Nice stuff, keep em coming and don't feel shy to upload your video's in HD :-)

The title of the album is Gypsy. Unfortunately, I don't know exactly who's the artist that recorded it.

Hi, does it is the IS function is working when you take the video? Thanks!

The IS was switch on when I took the shot but since I used a gimbal head and tripod, I believe it was automatically shut off or minimized because the lens has an auto detect capability.
