I'm performing an experiment to see if Vimeo can be used to make a multi track recording. Multi-tracking is usually used for audio recordings, but I wanted to see if it was useful for video too.

Super awesome - It'd be great to have the video as a visual cue for any intricate parts where instruments drop in and out.

Yeah, that's really cool that it worked so well. I guess this is the closest you can ever come to jamming with yourself, and it must be a first for Vimeo. What would be really cool is to get other people involved too - point them to this video and get them to record another part (but to prevent feedback issues, get them to record it so you can't hear this video in their video), and then eventually edit it all together into one big Vimeo jam!

That's a great idea! It's like the postal service, only more instantaneous and using vimeo.

i'd be in on it - i did some experiments last year looping/re-recording myself on split screen video - this kind of stuff is really fun

I love the idea totally excellent idea, I'd love it even more if the camera's pickup didn't lose the high "sparkle" of both instruments.

It doesn't sound bad at all! Nice! The real trick at this point would be to have a third video that was a click track for both! :) Great job!

    you call it multi-track,
    I call it recursion,

hey I've been doing this too... running multiple vimeos plus imovie. amazing things start happening at times... between the images and the audio... not to mention the metaphors they contain.

Excellent. I love to see people finding new and awesome uses for seemingly straight-forward technology. Cheers!

I did a similar experiment a few years back, with just audio. I recorded myself at the piano, then played the song back during a party, recording my song and the guests talking. The next time I threw a party played the old recording back and recorded a new one. The layered voices and music became quite strange. The people who were there the first time would suddenly hear themselves talking. The third time around the party had grown to huge proportions - at least a hundred people talking at the same time. My little piano piece got lost in the din.

I used to do this same thing with two cassette decks. I think the most dubs I ever did was ten or so. You wouldn't believe how bad it sounded when it was all done.
