We used our Sony PD170 miniDV, which turned out great before compression killed our quality... someday we'll figure out just how to get internet resizing done properly.

The answer is not to resize it! For this video and 'The Garnisher' we shot on HDV and then created an encode at 1280x720. It takes a while to upload but then it ensures Vimeo keeps as much detail as possible. This video is almost 70mb and The Garnisher was over 110mb!

Arne,
Our video wound up being 600mb in our working codec, and we encoded it as an h.264 mp4 with a 2000kbs bit rate. which brought down to ~45mb.
I'd suggest not using the cinepak codec, and try the h.264 It's a lot better suited to this sort of distribution.
