Where are the Black People on Vimeo?
Not as easy a question to answer as, "Where have all the cookies gone?"
I think FuzzyDave can answer that one. :-)

And the Black Peoples.
Was that wrong?
Silly Question: Why is Jake responsible for bringing in more racially diverse members? I'm making a huge assumption here, but I'm thinkin' you know more black people than Jake does. Why not invite them yourself?
Just sayin.
I just thought it'd be funny to call him out, lol.
As far as your friends are concerned -- Be forewarned: I'ma gonna eat em. Especially if they're covered in frosting.
The cutest black person on vimeo.

I watched another video with him in it. Didn't realize he was a member... I just thought he was "talent," LMAO.
Oh, and I'm just poking your ribs about the called-outtedness.

That's pretty awesome. I'd love to hear about what it was like growing up in Zimbabwe.

I have seen clips from black people, but most of them don't get involved in the community.
Maybe when we bring out groups and people can interact more with others who share the same interests we'll see a broader spectrum on Vimeo. At the moment, it probably feels like there's just one group: Vimeo diehards.
I made this video a staff pick in the hopes that it will bring in some friends for you.
I'll do my best to spread the word.
JD and I had a healthy discussion yesterday. He's good people.

:)
i don´t know what i am....
"buy me some black friends"
RAD
is not into to video , blogging or the like, hey at least she's into me!
Regardless, I'm glad you caught it and enjoyed it.
I witness a lot of, let's not call it social tension, but social guardedness between the various races in NYC. I hope to use Vimeo to "get close" to people I couldn't normally get close to, and hopefully erase all the images of those people that I've taken in over the years, not through real life experience but through movies & TV & magazines.
It's like, "Who shot JR," and whatnot.
now that may or may not make any sense - i will let it simmer though.
Perhaps vimeo is too shy for black people. It should attend some self-development classes. :-D
But yeah, you're totally right. I don't tag my clips with, "Crazy black lady."
You didn't, but I did.
BOO YAH!
Wu Tang, ya'll!
Frankly, before you said anything, Pam, I never gave a thought to it, and not for any reason in particular (the guy who I share half my projects with is black).
I don't know... the front page, to me, isn't racially biased in any way, so how can you blame people for not joining?
Sometimes there's a bit too much CV happenings (and yes, there are plenty of white people there) but otherwise, it doesn't make too much sense.
Hmmm, edited for self-destructive content, lol.
I don't think I pulled that one out of thin air...
You did tag the video with 'called out board'...
Chris: remove thumb from ass.
Oh, also, I think it has to do with Vimeo's main competition--Youtube--sucking away all the users. That, and the 250mb upload per week limitation!! Digital quality of video may reign supreme for those of here, but at the end of the day, even I resort to YouTube to send videos to family. Maybe black users are more space savvy? And Vimeo just can't handle that? :)
Absolutely. The space thing makes me not post as many videos as I'd like, because I want to conserve it for later in the week.
Twas there no limit, I'd post like a maniac, lol.
Quality is king! Vimeo is great.
Anyway, if we do are complaining: maybe i should create a movie stating that Vimeo is selective in favor of showing American video clips on the front page.. And that my clips are hardly ever watched.
But hey, i can live with that!
For now.
Hi, I'm Cecily. I live in Vancouver, Canada. Nice to meet you.
I've been to Canada several times-- Montreal and Toronto. Montreal is my favorite (croissants at McDonalds? Liquor at almost every coffee shop!?! I need to move again!) I hear Vancouver is nice.
The main point that I was trying to make with this video is there's obviously a low representation of Black Americans on this website.
What I was trying to say with the segment you're referring to is that there are active users from all over the earth, but perhaps
(confession time, I'm American by birth, but I also have Canadian citizenship).
I'd also wonder how many videos there are by black content creators who don't necessarily include themselves in their videos. I'd consider myself in that category, even though I've only managed to post two videos.
to everyone naming particular people in third person as representative "black vimeo users": only in such a minority population would that be possible. i mean, if someone asked where all the white people were, i doubt anyone would begin a list--what would the point be? i understand the desire to stand behind something so great as vimeo, and it makes me happy to see so many people joining in this discussion--vimeo is a community space, which has definitely been exemplified in this thread. and like any community, identifying these problems is crucial to strengthening it. it's easy to get defensive about things we love, and also to tokenize in an effort to defend, but maybe we as a community should think of how to open up this already diverse forum to the people who are absent, or at least consider these divides that aren't always so clear until someone brings them up.
I Dream of a day Where Vimians judge each other by the quality of their videos ...
42,1% of vimeo users are us americans, the rest are ~europe&canada&aus (alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?url=vimeo.com please, no alexa comments)
12,3% us americans are black (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racial_demographics_of_the_United_States)
internet penetration = 74%white&hispanics 61% black (pewinternet.org/trends/User_Demo_4.26.06.htm)
-> ~11% us american internet-pop are black
for europe i cant find ANY racial demographics (prop cause no one really bothered cause the situation is extremly diff from country to country) so i'll just estimate 4% internet pop are black.
so that makes 11% of 42,1% and 4% of 57,9%
about 7% here on vimeo should be black!
if not there is prob some racial discrimiation going on or my calculations were wrong (impooossible!)
that said, i'd like to join the friend request:
i want to meet some italians, preferably black!
