Wasp Macro with thin DOF (pre-prod. 5D Mark II video)
This footage of wasps (no idea which species) was imaged in available light at Paranaque City, Philippines, on October 11, 2008.
For this clip that used a very thin DOF, I first focused manually on the head of a stationary wasp. That wasp as expected moved around the nest beyond the sharp in-focus zone. To make the clip more interesting, I reversed the clip so it will play backward; i.e., starting from out-of-focus action and ending in in-focus image.
I used a pre-production Canon 5D Mark II and a Canon 100 2.8 USM macro lens. Support was Manfrotto 455B tripod + 410 geared head. The footage is unedited, except trimming of ends, reversal of playback, addition of watermark, removal of ambient audio and conversion to 1280x720 WMV file.
