very nice. i like the quality, the desaturation, the environment, her and the sadness in it.
did you add the music later or did you know what music you would use and heard it while recording ?

  • ße ωell ;-) plus 1 year ago
the colour correction choice is very fitting - gives it a dark & moody look.

Not being cultured enough to understand dance, I couldn't quite figure out the purpose of the newspaper cut-out?

Still, I enjoyed it and the music is appropriate too - nice :)

This is great. I really like the choice of location and the colour correction, along with the black and white of the cutout - they provide a kind of industrial backdrop for the dance.

It all looks fantastic but my favourite part is at about 00:43 - the subtle tracking shot.

You've really established a style here. Well done!

Hi Kyle thanks for your comments shot on Sony XDCAM HD F350. thanks again for following my work Mark.

Isn't that cam used more for ENG work rather than shorts and EFP? Doesn't it have a B&W view finder? I personally think that's a better way to judge contrast... Also, how did you get the 2.39:1 aspect ratio?

    This is simply astounding.

The way everything blends together phenomenal. The dancing is beautiful of course. I love the scenery of the location. The camerawork is smooth and elegant, almost a dance itself. The editing is careful and seamless, alternating from one shot to another at all the right moments, concentrating on what's important. The colors match up perfectly.

Again, this is a spectacular piece. Bravo!

Great effort... You should now progress, try and venture into shallower depth of focus, like the Letus Ultimate or the RedRock M2 lens adaptors. Reason is because in all the frames, I could not focus on the one subject that you are trying to show and your story. I am distracted and keep on focusing on the surroundings as everything is sharp and in focus. Shallow depth means you can get your audience to see what you want them to see and focus on and surroundings will then be an atmosphere. Try it and let me know what you think... Great effort overall.
  • Philip Bloom plus 1 year ago
Mark is very familiar with shallow DOF as he has assisted me on many shoots. I am sure he will one day been trying to convince him to get an EX3 for ages!

Wow that was really good. I liked it.

I have a couple of questions.

What program did you edit on and what program did you colour correct with or how did you colour correct?

Also, I'm not very familiar with the camera and I'm not sure if it has a manual shutter speed but if it does, what shutter speed did you use?

And did you shoot in 24p?

Too often dance is shot and edited with so little sensitivity. The eye is restrained and the sense of movement is lost in mere observation. You have given the eye empathy and i can share in the movement i see. Wow...that is powerful.

I especially like the moment when the artist is eclipsed into the background by the paper-mate she dances with. Mesmeric... I have been watching it over and over.

I think the paper person means a metaphor that between one person and the others is hard to communicate.
    Great work.

The quote at the end by B.Russel gave another flavor to this already flavorful piece. Mmmmm..
