Just by playing around with Final Cut... Its just using the crop function and adding keyframes to move the size of what your cropping - if that makes sense?

Joel - are you using 8-point cropping? No keying? I couldn't figure out where the rectangles would've been drawn on the bitchslap part - either way, it's awesome.

By keying do you mean croma key? Cos there is none of that... Its kind of hard to explain but basically the arm was on a forth layer, and the crop extends out with the arm and then shrinks back again...
