...and the video was exhibited as part of the citypulse collection! see: citypulseblog.blogspot.com/2008/12/citypulse-at-tower.html
-------

Time-lapse movies of dawn and dusk in San Francisco; post-processing used to add a 'tilt-shift' effect to some of the sequences.

Audio sample credit: 'Reckoner', by Radiohead (In Rainbows)

Inspiration drawn from Keith Loutit and his series of amazing time-lapsed, tilt-shifted videos of Sydney: vimeo.com/keithloutit/
..and I shouldn't forget to mention the idea of using an SLR for video from Reverie: vincentlaforet.com/

Equipment:
- Canon EOS 450D (Rebel XSi)
- Netbook (Aspire One) running Mandriva 2009
- gphoto 2.4.3 - command line:
gphoto2 --set-config capture=on --capture-image-and-download -I 5
- dodgy tripod that shook like crazy in the wind

Some of my earlier experiments with tilt-shifting:

What's with the odd changes in brightness? Can you normalise that?

Oh I get it, it's from the clouds right?

Annoying flicker: I'm not 100% sure as to the source. I clamped the ISO, the aperture (low f-stop) to fixed values and I turned off the white balance compensation. The shutter speed needed changed very quickly over time with dawn and dusk (went from 1/400 to 1.6 in the space of about 10 minutes), so presumably it was the result of a noisy changes in shutter speed.

I'm a total newbie to this to I'm really not sure.

Did you have Image Stablization on? That might account for the shifts. Very nice anyway. Good to see in HD!
