In this Tutorial I describe how you use my After Effects script Tracker2Mask.jsx to assist rotoscoping.

Tracker2Mask computes the movement of maskshapes based on the movement of trackpoints. It is easy and flexible to use. In particular you don't need one trackpoint for each maskpoint. In the tutorial I show how to rotoscope the shape of a moving car based on only four trackpoints, for simpler shapes often one trackpoint is sufficient.

You can DOWNLOAD tracker2mask for free at aextensions.blogspot.com/2009/02/tracker2mask.html

Some new features of Tracker2Mask are explained here:

Hi, tolles Video. Die Sprache lässt sich ändern und zwar, wenn man -ENG anfügt:

    Adobe After Effects CS3\Support Files\AfterFX.exe" -L EN

Yuuuups... just find it! Sorry (I'm new at vimeo)
Mmmm... by the way... and trying to understand german... it seems that Hannes knows how to change after effects interface lenguage... Does anybody know how to change it on Mac Os X (Leopard)? (Obviously without reinstalling it)
Again... great job! Keep it on!

Yes, Hannes explains a way to start AE CS3 in English (just add -L EN at the end of your link). Thank you for the hint, Hannes!

Olipool from hackermovies.com gave me another hint how to manage it in CS2: for any available language, there is a link available under "Adobe/Adobe After Effects 7.0/Languages/". But non of the tips works with CS4, unfortunately :-(

To force English UI on AE CS3 Mac OS X:
right click on Adobe After Effects CS3.app and choose Obtain Information.
Then scroll down the info pallete until you find the language section and uncheck all options except English. When you start the program again you'll find the English UI :) I suppose CS4 works the same way.

Mathias how do you create 4 trackpoints and then create a mask ?? could you explain that please?
  •
  • Mathias Möhl 9 months ago
@villas: Sorry, I think I don't really get your question. You have to create the mask (in one or a few keyframes) by hand. Only the modification of the mask over time is then computed by the script. Can you make your question more precise?

    Good morning Mathias.

Great toolset and seems quite easy to use.

I have one simple question regarding the installation of the script.

I have followed all the steps mentioned in your tutorial, except that once I open the Script in AE CS4, I get an syntax error on line 1 which does not allow to launch the script.

Is there something specific which needs to be installed on my mac in order to get it to run ?

    AE CS4 9.0.1
    OS X 10.5.6

    Thx in advance.

    Hi Mathias.

    I found the problem.

The script was saved in an rtf format. I resaved in a pure txt file and it worked.

    Sorry for the noise.

I found my answer at AE Enhancers

Well i am quit new in this and i still don't get it. I have thought that when you want to instal it it has to be a jsx file.

When i click on Tracker2Mask.jsx to download on blog page it opens another window with plain text. Nothing to download. Can anyoane tell me if this is the right way? If so, what do i do?
    Thanks

    i can't wait to try this script. : )

Just right-click on the link and save the file to the desktop.
If you see the .text extension appended (after the .jsx) just delete '.text'.
