Hawaiian Telcom filed for bankruptcy protection to protect the Carlyle Group's US$1 billion in acquisition-related debt. Can HawTel regain its residential subscriber base before Time Warner Oceanic become the dominant telco in the 50th state? The ILEC's long-delayed IPTV may be the best chance to save HawTel.
