what is "Trooping the Colour" about?
  • Tallulah 1 year ago
Trooping the Colour is Queen Elizabeth's colorful ceremonial birthday parade, usually held on the second or third Saturday in June. Interestingly, her real birthday is in April.

    I love your new title:
    "By Special Appointment..."
    Congratulations!

Yes, it was quite an honor!

Really like the slo-mo. It seemed to be from a different age. I watched it twice before I figured out what was so different. No bullet proof glass.
  • Tallulah 1 year ago
You're right! Also, as the Queen's fashion sense tends to be "timeless," this could have just as easily been filmed in 1966.

The music and the slow motion really do have a strong effect on that shot. Good stuff.

That track has always seemed out of place on that album, but I just realised it was made when CDs were new and the track listings were designed for vinyl. I suppose an album made today could have a subliminal retro feel if it stays under fifty minutes with a halfway ending at around twenty-five?
  • Tallulah 1 year ago
Good point. I am of the opinion that CDs enable artists to include far too many songs on their "albums." Quality over quantity, is what I say.
  • adam deeves 1 year ago
The idea that CDs should be completely full up has ruined a lot of older albums in the form of the 'bonus track'. The album comes to an end, either fading away or reaching a climax and then a house remix of the single release leaves you with a nasty taste like a Pot Noodle after a great meal.

You should have seen her at the after-party.

A nice tune from the fourth or fifth most influential album of all time.
  • Tallulah 1 year ago
    You're twaddling, mate.
  • islebehere 1 year ago
this would have sounded really good with The Ramones set to it. something from 'God Save The Queen', perhaps
  • Tallulah 1 year ago
Hmmm...I haven't heard The Ramones' version of "God Save the Queen," but you're probably right.

Lovely musical choice. Previous to this the only Stone Roses song I had ever heard was on a very old ('95ish) mix tape that a friend had made for me, which featured the song "Tears".

You MUST (I mean this very minute) get a copy of their self-titled debut album. Despite what SteveR has said in the above comment, he knows that it is the most influential album of all-time.
  • SteveR 1 year ago
I don't think it is the most influential album of all time, but it is certainly one of the best albums ever made. It contains a remarkably high number of brilliant songs. Tallulah is right when she says you must get a copy of it.
