See all Show me
I'm hooked. I think there is no doubt the 5d ii changes the whole game. This was shot and edited with about three hours of total production time, the day after I got the camera. I never left seat 36b.

This is really really great. Sucked me out of my office and into the airplane with you.

    I twittered this: twitter.com/chrismccorkle/status/1064905286

Thanks Chris. Man that was fun to make. This was my second day with this camera. I'm a photographer not a video guy. Who knows where this camera will take us all. I thinks it's gonna be so exciting to see. You could have never done this before two weeks ago.

Hmm ... I wonder if it'd be good with this song too: divshare.com/download/6120209-a04

What I like about this one is how it starts out etherial, your in their in her dream then you get a taste of the airplane bustle with the driving beat section and then I love how you get gently laid back to sleep with her. I was so lucky to find this song. This was one of those projects that just felt like it fell together so easy.

Very nice video - can't wait to pick up this camera. Also well done with getting away with filming on the plane - aren't they usually quite picky with that?

That's the beauty of the 5d. It's so unabtrusive. Everything was shot straight from my seat too. I didn't attract attention to myself. I always say Miranda can get away with murder with those curls. Rubs off to her dad a bit probably when she's with me. She pretty much the anti-terrorist. Well. . . depends how far past nap time we are. :-)

Great stuff! I was filming on my flight yesterday to the UK... Was to dark overnight unfortunately for anything great...

  • I really like the idea that you never left your seat. I'm still saving up my money for the MK II. Hopefully next year.

Excellent piece! It really communicated your girl's slumber and the experience of a plane ride, but with a filmic quality. I look forward to more.

Really nice work Josh. It's amazing what you can come up with this camera. I have to share one with my Bro Christian but thats ok for now until I get the hang of the thing. Look forward to seeing more.

very cool. I would probably have tried to lock ISO a little lower, though. i saw some chroma noise, i think.

nice video. And real steady too! Any tips for keeping a steady hand near the back of the plane?

    Hey thanks everyone.

I'd say you're right on the ISO Tom. All I had with me was the 4.0 kit lens. Use some 2.8 lenses or 1.xx primes and you'll get a lot less noise I'm sure. The 1080 downsized to 720 is actually helping me out on this also. I can see a bit more of the problems when I view it full res. Unfortunately the video mode is stuck in auto everything. I'm hoping for a firmwear update to give us ISO control and at least AV mode. Wishful thinking probably. The best we can do now is exposure compensation, and exposure lock. Throw in a couple ND filters and you've got some control even if it's a messy fix.

So Rich, I was trying a little of everything. The tray table, the seat back. Some of this is handheld. The wide end of the 24-105 I.S. does a good job handheld. The best was wedged in between the two seats in front of me. Check the shot with the seat belt light. Coolest part is the captain had it on for turbulence. :-) Just try everything you got available.

Thanks for looking and stay tuned for more.

Kudos! Well put together. I echo the above positive comments. As photojournalism combines with video journalism a new type of reporting [visual journalism] is coming into its own and I welcome it. Will be getting plenty of exciting use from my Mark II. Thanks for a great post!

this is exactly why i've been so excited about the prospect of video in SLR's since the moment people began discussing it. gorgeous filmic vision from the palm of your hands.. not lugged over your shoulder.
