Scratching a Pimple and Rising Above It - Reloaded
11 months ago
There is only 65m height differential between the south facing take off and the fields below, but there is "free" air space above Dingle (located N of Göteborg and Uddevalla), and with the cultivated plains in front and the wooded elevated area behind, thermals CAN be abundant at that pimple (it's irregularity and lack of steepness and extension makes me reluctant to call it a ridge). However, the Skagerrak is nearby, so whenever the sea breeze kicks in, the site becomes worthless even on one of those rare southwind days. Southerly winds often occur before a warm front, as on the day of this flight in September 2008.
No hg- nor pg-pilot has yet risen to 1000MSL there, let alone to FL95. Will someone be able to at least pass the 1000m mark in 2009? Perhaps some hg- or pg- "sky god" travelling on the E6 between Göteborg and Oslo can make a stop at Dingle to show how it's done? ;-)

I had to limit the bit rate to 3,800kbit/s to make this one uploadable to Vimeo, whereas the original video's bit rate was 12,0000. For anyone interested in a less compressed version and/or subsequent events (sorry, no English subtitles or translations available of the audio;-) , my entire movie from that afternoon in 8,000k bit rate is available for download from this server: tivoli.mine.nu/peterl/
The file name is HD_720p_Dingle_Revisited_Sept08-all.mov
Maybe the thermic is stronger 30 m away for the pimple ... Not ?
Do you know flying sites in Iceland ? Where ? GPS-Data ?
Thank you !
