My roommate just spent a month living in France, and returned to us with the delicious recipe for Kir! Kir is made by putting a small amount of creme de cassis (black currant liquor) in a glass, and topping it with white wine. Very tasty, but mostly we became interested in making our wine glasses sing.

    very funny.
    I love doing that too.
I think it would sound extra good if I had some of that creme de cassis first :-)

    mmm, that drink looks awesome.

It was good! I'm sure it would have been far more delicious if we'd spent a little more money on the white wine.

Ha! Well, it was served to my roommate by her host parents... who were rather old and retired. So that explains it!

I'm afraid I can't read French... I will look it up elsewhere.

And to SteveR-- Uhhh, don't worry... my roommate says served it in the bars where all the young people go too! Clearly, you are young and hip.

Well Kir is only for apero (before dinner),never during dinner, occasionaly in the morning;). You can do it with all sort of cream: cassis but also Mûre or peach. The wine has to be "sec" (not really sugary). If you do it with champagne it's a kir Royal, but if you ask me it's wasting champagne! Nice glass by the way!
  • Karlin 7 months ago
Well, you are quite knowledgeable about Kir! It's funny that you mention Kir Royal being a waste of champagne, because I JUST tried it two nights ago and I agree! I prefer the champagne alone. : )

Well I don't even like Kir that much but I'm french so I cannot help it;)
