The Remnants
The pilot for The Remnants, written and directed by John August. Starring Justine Bateman, Michael Cassidy, Ben Falcone, Ze Frank, Ernie Hudson, and Amanda Walsh.
It was shot during the WGA strike in February 2008, using the SAG internet agreement.
The project was set up for a time at NBC/Universal, but rights have since reverted to me. I'm considering doing a new version as a tiny feature film.

Love JB and Michael Cassidy used to annoy me but now is HOT!
Really, really good video ;-))
Great writing and interesting casting. Very enjoyable. Thanks for posting.
Let's try to get the series off the ground!

Tell me who to lobby and I'll go all fangirl over their ass.
The feel of the show was great, and the tiny taste of the plot that we got was wonderful.
It would absolutely rock if this would get picked up and produced.
First off, I won't review the production/direction, that would be hugely unfair. I will thusly review the screenplay:
This is obviously a character-driven/plot-driven dramedy show. All the characters got introduced and characterized rather funny and neatly in a few actions/words. And the post-apocalypse is always interesting to deal with (reading your blog, I hopefully know you will probably never explain the Grand Canyon and Whatever-Happened-To-Earth - finally a writer who cares for his audience!)
*However*, please explain to me then, why the enormous amount of downright boring dialogue (the turkey? batteries? roommates? ed begley jr? the vote?)? Why not, as Tarantino would have done, throw in a few 'motherfuckers' or 'bitches'; or as Sorkin, a bunch of incredibly fast-paced witty remarks? With all due respect (almost all your films are just marvelous, and the scripts for DC are too), if you honestly know you're not writing good dialogue, refrain from it.
Just my less-than-two-cents-rant. Feel free to cry like a helpless child (now, I'm just kidding) or to plea guilty and hate yourself for it (again, I'm only kidding) or to not care anymore about what other people say about your writing (yes, in fact, I'm kidding again 'cause you had to find this out for yourself a long long time ago and don't need me to tell you anymore).
Now I really do have to break my ranting. I hope your other future screenplays do have better dialogues (I know they certainly will).
I found this because of Ze Frank, who I love as an actor and provocateur, but he fits right into the ensemble without overpowering it. Maybe because the other cast members are equally good.
I'm disappointed that there isn't a place for this somewhere-- with money, I mean. I thought about it as TV, but the short format is really integral. Maybe it could be retooled, but I don't think the market for new TV is any better than web video right now.
Unless it can be sold as a reality series-- a real possibility, unfortunately.
