This is so good. How do you manage to keep the mountain steady in the middle and move so much?

I love the feel of this. I think if you reupload it in HD they will reencode it in HD, I would love to see it 1280x720.

Gorgeous . . . it truly gave me a sense of witnessing the Matterhorn firsthand . . . I LOVED the tram ride!

amazing!!!! how u captured everything moving and changing but the matterhorn remains still. i love that stillness mountains possess. its so distinct and grand.
  •
  • joannabanana 2 years ago

I'd love to know how too, and how the camera moves slighty - the image seems to bend.

The good idea. The perfect technique.
How neither move around the mountain - Mount remains immovable! So is in life.
I want "Clouds over Rossiya" too! :))
  • Willem van den Hoed plus 2 years ago
I going through all my back-up disks at the moment... Where have the clouds over Rossiya gone?! Blown over?

If you use a grid when you shoot and try to keep the object in the asme general area in all shots and then do "tracking" in the editing part then you would get a result like this. Maybe its done differently, but this would give you a similar result.

    ...amazing movie.
  • Willem van den Hoed plus 2 years ago
In fact that is the way. The "tracking" is done by hand, frame per frame! Accurate to pixel level on 10mb photo's.

One of the best videos I've ever seen on internet. Amazing, and the technique is unbelievable. How long were You working on this one, except shooting the photos? Could You reveal a bit o this?
  • Thank you very much for your comment!
I took all the photo's with the top of the mountain in the little square of my viewfinder. The photographs were taken with a Leica D-LUX3 @ 10MB. After that I individually stabilized the frames in photoshop. (This took about two weeks.) The stabilized frames were taken to After Effects and there I could pan and zoom in on the animation. The sunrise was photographed in one week; the individual frames were organized by time of day, regardless of day of the week!
And now, Juraj, you know all my secrets!

AMAZING, its brilliant! Really nice music and great visuals.
By the way whats the music?
  • Willem van den Hoed plus 11 months ago
Thanks! Yes, the music... I started out with music by Wim Mertens a Belgian Composer.
The video would be part of an exhibition and I asked Mertens for permission to use his music and show the video in public but he never replied to my emails. I than decided to "compose" my own music, inspired by Mertens. The music should be hectic and slow at the same time. I used a distant church bell to separate the seven days.

Great work. Great whimsical, positive vibe. I'm a little sad you revealed your methods.

    :(
  • Willem van den Hoed plus 9 months ago
Thanks and, yes, the dilemma of revealing the method. I am against it in general, and still I observe myself telling people how I do it. I cannot keep a secret...
  •
  • Counterbugs plus 9 months ago
Oh yeah, and I fucking love the low light grain. Wonderful to see that realism. I get tired of the pristine digital photography around here. Nice to see something raw and real.
  • Willem van den Hoed plus 9 months ago
Yes, the grain is pleasant. Thanks for your comments!
