I really liked this. Did you have to alter any of the pictures?
  • sanddunesandsea 2 years ago
thanks, i cropped and resized them all, before putting them together in imovie. then added an overall colour effect/vignette when it was done.

it's a shame poetry isn't presented like this more often. they should do this kind of thing in school, the kids would take it all in and not find it so boring.

    brilliant.

i definitely agree. visuals really do help stimulate, enforce rhythm, and if used correctly help with the understanding of the meaning.

Very nice; thanks for doing such an awesome job setting my reading of this terrific poem to visuals. I agree with einsteinmonster. I've read my own poems and others to younger folks on many occasions and have had great responses. Making the stuff more 3D, more multi-media, more performative is a great way to hook people who would otherwise find it dull.

    Cheers,
    Zachariah Wells

I was just watching the UK version of The Office, and at the end of one episode, David recites a few lines from this poem. It made me think of this. Thought I'd mention it.
  • sanddunesandsea 2 years ago
hah, great! which do you prefer- the UK or US version?
  • butterwolf 2 years ago
I have a soft spot for both versions; I love them both. Right now, I am really into the UK one. I stayed up until like, 7 am watching it. They both have their pros and cons. For instance, I like the American Pam/receptionist more than I like the British Dawn/receptionist. Everyone else is equally funny. I never watch television, so I only get to see these things on DVD. Shamefully, I have only seen season 1 of the US version, which I hear doesn't even compare to the brilliance of season 2 & 3. Okay, I've rambled enough.

From what I've seen of Slough, it does seem a bit of a dump.

This is how poetry works for me.

    Synesthetic, a visual tone poem.

I only baulk slightly because I live in Slough (having moved from Richmond) and have grown to love the White Van Men, the plasterers and the roofers I love amongst. The only trouble is that we do encamp to Maidenhead for a jar or two and say we come from Cippenham (not Slough). We don't have room for a cow, but we're getting a couple of chickens.

He was right all along... except I'm not bald.
