This is another tasty edition of my running vlog. This edition features my friend Sue and I running a gigantic twenty mile training run .

Q - Why are we running so far?
A - We're training for the Lasalle Bank Chicago Marathong (I like calling it a marathong...c'mon, it's funny!)

This is also a part of JChaps (http://www.vimeo.com/nonsense)Goalproving project.

Way to go! 20! Only 6.2 more to go!

holy crap. it's going to be tough!

What the hell were y'all eating? Was that just honey?

And I'm disappointed - I wanted to see some bikers get their asses kicked. Somebody, anyway.
  • Loonachic 11 months ago
We were eating Honey Stingers. It's a packet of honey with a mix of B vitimins for an energy boost. When you run any serious distance, you're delpleting your body of glycogen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycogen#Glycogen_debt_and_endurance_exercise ), which is a short term energy store. By eating stuff like honey, you're restoring the energy your body needs to keep moving.

I would have loved to kick some biker ass today. Some of them are totally obnoxious. They ride up your ass, then slam the brakes to scare you to death. When your'e running, the last thing you need is some ass scaring the shit out of you. It's hard enough out there! :-)

Sorry about that... the bike thing.
  • Loonachic 11 months ago
that's ok. we'll let you slide this time, but next time we might get midevil on your ass.

    ;-)

excuse the French, but this is FUCKING AMAZING.

it's the purest form of human achievement, staking your mind right up over and beyond what you once thought were the limits of your body.

good thing you guys had each other along the way. it's always nice when someone else is working alongside you.

    so inspiring.

Usually one's personal goals are just that - personal.

Being able to see others give their blood sweat (literally) and tears to achieve a goal, the struggle offers a rare glimpse into the lives of others is rarely . Thanks for sharing. I've got a lot of work to do tonight and this was a nice pick me up.

Where did you finish and turn around? Warrenville? Wheaton? Nice job! You guys are awesome!
  • Loonachic 11 months ago
started in aurora, turned around in elgin. :-)
  • nshack 11 months ago
Wow, I know you wouldn't want to go any further, but that seems further than 20 miles. When I bike to St. Charles it is 14.8 each way, and Elgin is further. Do you have some crazy shortcut?
  • Loonachic 11 months ago
we hit the beginning of the elgin branch past lincoln marsh.

we ran ten out, and ten back.

i don't think it's any further than ten because we run with GPS systems strapped to our bodies which gives us a pretty accurate reading.

  • Loonachic 11 months ago
where do you start from? we're starting from aurora off of diehl road. (by the factory card outlet)
  • nshack 11 months ago
Oh, right... I start on the river path at Illinois St., so you are further east and north from there. Plus, you're on the Prairie Path, so it's altogether different. I like the GPS approach. I'm sure you get pretty good data from it.
  • Loonachic 11 months ago
    ah.

yeah. the gps gives me my time, pace, distance, hear rate and my route. when i'm finished a run, i can upload the data to my computer and do an analysis if i wanted to, but i'm running for fun, so all that data is a bit much for me. i focus more on distance than anything else.
