So yeah I'm pretty excited about the new HD feature.

Enjoy this Spider and Nick Cave.

2007

NOTES: For knowledge sake. Originally the HD file was at 140MB for a 1'30 clip. Way too big. After Blake Whitman suggested using VisualHub I was able to get the file down to 70MB. A little more tweaking an I was able to get it down to 35MB! I was able to shave off 105MB. And it still looks the way I want it to.

    That's so cool!

I'm one of those people who is absolutely fine with spiders (in fact I'm quite interested in them) unless they're really near me and not under a glass. Then I get a little jumpy, which obviously makes looking at them close up difficult, so this is great.

Kamala hates spiders. She doesn't hate hate them but she can't stand when they start moving. ick! (i'm exaggerating)

I dig spiders. They don't bug me as much unless they're the black kind with that red hour-glass shape thing on its back. RUN!

Dude, you must stop telling the world that I hate spiders. It makes me sound like a sissy girl. I don't hate them; in fact I think they're super cool and interesting; they just freak me out. I wish they didn't but it's built into me, the reaction to squeal like a sissy nincompoop and run away. Sad but true. I can't explain it. This is a great clip!
  • Ian Lucero plus 2 years ago
Ok yes. I am making shit up. Sorry. She is NOT a sissy girl.

In fact if I saw a huge gangly spider I'd probably run like a sissy girl down the street.

What kind of compression do you use when/if you export the clip? I have a HD camera too and I can never seem to export properly!

We'll have a FAQ up on Monday!
  • Ian Lucero plus 2 years ago
Justin thanks for the FAQ heads up. I am having problems getting smaller files with HD. I'm used to SD clips @ around 10MB each for the same length or longer as this 1:30 clip. But I think I can squeeze smaller files out of compressor if I could figure out better settings.

Joel: I'm using VisualHub for my compressing needs right now for the HD stuff because it is way faster and simpler. I'll try to post something in the "Camera Forum" about what I find best for compressing my HD stuff.

    Thanks guys!
My main prob is after i've edited in final cut, i don't know what settings to use to export it.
But i'll wait to have a read of the FAQ first!

Ian, you don't have the download feature available... thats why we don't see it.
  • Ian Lucero plus 2 years ago

This is great. I'm wondering what compression settings you used and how big the file you uploaded was.
  • Ian Lucero plus 2 years ago
Hey Anna, I had my download option turned off for some reason but I have now turned it on.

The file size is about 70mb though I think I can get it to be smaller. I need to tinker a little more with the settings.

Compressed using h.264 out of a program called VisualHub. In there i have it set to Two Pass. Again I still need to mess with the settings a little more to get smaller file sizes.

the fact that you were able to catch this freaky ass spider wrapping up a poor little insect, and on top of it all, do it in HD! is friggin awesome. really nice work dude
  • Ian Lucero plus 2 years ago
Thanks Adam. I lucked out but also there are many of these spiders around the yard. Really hairy and creepy looking. Then there was this really great one out front that had spun its web so big and it was catching the sunlight. Had to shoot it.
