In which I discover that Julia thinks it's sexy when I film her.

Every now and then, I take a break from making videos for a while. The past three months have been such a phase. And it's exciting, because I have more to say now than ever before.

It's so different to have you posting videos for once. !!!

Also, I would just like to note that I was wearing NO MAKEUP in this video. I say that because there are a few people out there who think I wear mounds of makeup all the time. No. I just happen to have to wear it for work - but I take it off the first minute I can, usually. So really, it's either TV makeup (which is inherently too much) or this - nothing.

Jake says that ... well, hmm ... how does he put it, exactly ... he feels more equal with me when I'm not wearing makeup? Or that I'm not in "tv mode"? J, how did you explain how you felt about me wearing or not wearing makeup?
  • Jakob Lodwick 9 months ago
When you have makeup on, you're on another frequency. It's like I'm naked and you have clothes on -- it's a level of protection.
  • dalas verdugo 9 months ago
I think you look much better without makeup.
  • Alex McCollister 9 months ago
    I'm with dalas.
  • Julia Allison 9 months ago
You're both crrrrrrrazzzzzy but thank you. Ever since I started doing TV, I've felt like makeup is my protection against the world. I feel safer with it on, and more vulnerable without it. Maybe you have to be a girl to understand.

    i love the end.
    'sweeet'
    and such a nice eye.
  • Jakob Lodwick 9 months ago
haha, 93 plays so far, and only one comment. You are a brave man. Or, everyone else is just *bored* by this!
  • Emily Qualey 9 months ago
i actually love the depth of field... and how smoothly you move the camera over the blanket.

i found myself not even listening to what you guys were talking about...

  • saar 9 months ago
Hmm, I usually wear some of makeup when I go to work or school. At home I don't care so much. I guess you might call it a protection of some sort. Never thought of it that way before!

Nice video, love the intimacy of it.

C'mon people, more substance. Lapsing into loverly drivel (verbal and visual) does nothing for anyone -- maybe for you, if you keep it private.

Is this the implosion stage of a relationship - spiralling into irrelevance - one partner struggling valiantly to assert control (posturing, nostalgic, clinging) whilst the other floats slowly away, heeding a calling, sadly toying with lost love?
    Sad, and oh too typical.

huh? That makes no sense, "Kwerx"!
  • Nick Gray 9 months ago
Is there any way to disable or filter comments from Vimeo users with zero videos uploaded? (ie "Disable comments from comment-only users.")
  • Kwerx 9 months ago
Sorry Julia, maybe all the swoony romance got to me and I got a little obtuse. Or maybe it just takes objectivity (ask AA).
And I love Nick's indignation at the democratic nature of it all. Maybe I'm just a newbie Nick, or a voyeur, does that mean I can't dissect this public relationship? Or are you offended by my intrusion into your little world? Join a private forum, or move to Burma, if you want to limit free speech.
  • AA 9 months ago
Sorry, Julia, not only do I not know what you're supposed to ask me, I have no idea what my answer is. Feel free to ask, though, and I'll do my best. Kwerx apparently trusts my judgment.
  • Jakob Lodwick 9 months ago
"Kwerx", the reason your comment was poorly received is that we have no idea who you are. You are a floating voice on my web page. Please ask yourself: in the midst of this conversation amongst established identities, why on *Earth* would any of us care that a non-uploader with a fake name thinks our private time is "typical"?

And you might want to check your political metaphors. This video page is MY property. A stranger walking onto my land and sputtering some academic nonsense is not democracy. If you want your own forum, by all means upload your own videos. I will not stop you!

You should be thanking me for engaging with you instead of giving your comments the treatment they deserve: deletion.
  • Blake Whitman 9 months ago
    nicely put Jakob.
  • Kwerx 9 months ago
Sorry again guys, never meant to upset you so! "academic nonsense" seems harsh... I was just postulating, albeit a bit cryptically. Or is that what "academic nonsense" is?

I didn't set out to hurt anyone's feelings just thought that one video was a bit lame, and seemed cloying. I defended Julia's Google attack. I guess I should have sang more praises before criticising!

I only joined Vimeo yesterday at the suggestion of a friend, and intended to upload stuff, but I will leave now, feeling unwelcome (you do sound so much like the Google people!).

And yes, I do thank you for engaging me. You are a noble man. Thank you, and I'm so sorry!
  • Jakob Lodwick 9 months ago
Maybe if I knew you, I would be able to discern which bits are sarcasm and which are sincere.
  • Kwerx 9 months ago
Thanks Jakob, maybe we can work on the getting to know me bit (bright and breezy and all). I'd like that.
I generally try to be sincere. My only verge on sarcasm was in my last para -- "noble man" probably would have have been more sincere (and wittier) as "engaging character". That you are, as is Julia.
    More power to ya!
  • Julia Allison 9 months ago
Poor thing, I feel like we jumped all over him/her. Kwerx, we eagerly await your videos and continued commentary :)
  • Ross Hill 9 months ago
I thought "The video even had a sexy feel to it...until you said sweeeeeet" like Courntney below.

Then I wondered whether to say it or not - because nobody here apparently knows me, because I've only posted a couple of mega-pixelated phone clips.. it's interesting how your definition of identity is constrained to vimeo (not that theres anything wrong with that) when it is likely that we all have bits of identity spread throughout the web.

Where is that identity aggregator when you need one..
  • Kwerx 8 months ago
    An identity aggregator sounds genius.

No worries at all guys, you seem a sweet and talented bunch.

I'd be happy to slowly cultivate a personality and the ensuing (or not) friendships, but I think my "identity agitator" attitude was an acerbic introduction. Perhaps I should remain an anonymous online voyeur, shamed by my negative approach. It seems provocative... albeit shameful.
Or maybe just rely on meatspace...
  • Karlin 8 months ago
I dunno, I don't think anyone jumped too viciously on Kwerx here, who right off the bat condemned a personal relationship. And really, I don't think anyone wants to be "typical," or have their conversations referred to as "drivel" so saying he didn't mean to hurt anyone sounds pretty bullshit to me.

I mean, freedom of speech and all, but I feel like the Vimeo community generally shuns this kind of behavior, and we all like it because of that.

i think this is the sweetest video of you guys yet. yr adorable.
  • Jakob Lodwick 9 months ago
HAha, it's the FIRST sweet video of us, I think. Up until now they've been mostly squabbles, like a Jenny and Reggie video:

    vimeo.com/337762

Our relationship has been helping in large part to making it public. We get insight from dozens of friends who, instead of hearing my side of the story or her side of the story, actually get to *watch the story*. It's great.
  • hannah 9 months ago
I hope you never break up - we're all going to be heartbroken.
  • Julia Allison 9 months ago
Hannah, that's so sweet of you!

    I think Jakob agrees. HAHAHA

I love this clip. Sliding across the bed... did you have the macro on (flower)?
  • Jakob Lodwick 9 months ago
Yes! And I wish they would call it "Flower Mode" instead of macro mode.
  • Clintus McGintus 9 months ago
It's funny because most people I talk to do call it Flower mode since they don't even know what a macro is.
  • Jordaniel 9 months ago
I never understood why it was macro mode, since macro means the big scale and micro is small scale. So confusing
  • Clintus McGintus 9 months ago
Its because the subject is about as close to the real size as it gets. So it's "bigger" in scale as compared to when you pull out, It makes things smaller to fit in the frame. standard macro lenses are 1:1 and most camera's lenses don't go that big. My Canon SD400 goes to 1:2.8 which is awesome for a point and shoot camera.

Jakob reminds me of myself, in a much more creative, individual, who is super hip and unique, ok jakob and I are only similar, because I totally would have pulled the sweeeeet

I just made this clip and stole your shot.

I knew that a similar shot did not have to look as bad.

Lighting may be different but I had to try it out.

It's weird how similar you and Julia's relationship is to Jake and Amir's.

I think it will be a long time until I read a funnier comment on this site! Congratulations!

(Oh and thanks to you I have a very nice black keyboard with lovely white dots on it (the dots being the milk that came from my nose))

  • Pam Newman 8 months ago
I really feel like I just watched a sex tape of my best friends.

Somehow alluring yet really freaking gross.
  • Jakob Lodwick 8 months ago
    what specific aspects were gross??
  • Pam Newman 8 months ago
(I was being sarcastic) Well, what I meant by gross was like when you see your couple friends like kiss each other's hands or foreheads and it's so sugary sweet.

You guys are a lovely couple and it's totally sugary sweet.

What I was specifically referring to was how open you guys are with your communication, and just how cute your conversations are. I like watching it, but I'm single so I'm jealous, therefore anything cute you do is categorized as gross.

    Didn't mean to offend! :-)
