A photograph taken at every ten paces as an experiment to see how a technique closer to stop-motion with composed images and control over random factors (especially joggers) compares to standard video time-lapse.

These are a couple of walks in Oxford; one from Marston Ferry road, through the University Parks to Marston Road, and the other from Hythe Bridge Street, by the Oxford Canal, through Port Meadow to Polstead Road.

It looks like a photograph every five paces would have been more effective but I can't be bothered to remake this particular test. The downloadable version isn't as corrupted.

Nice. My only time spent in Oxford was last summer when it was 80 degrees F w/o a cloud in the sky. I guess I came at the right time. Those parks are most lovely.

    oh that is cool

  • this is a really interesting effect. i think its greatest appeal to me is the fact that it is all on a path. you have a very strong sense of direction and a feeling that you are making great progress. i was excited because i thought i was getting somewhere really fast. its just slow enough to understand what is going on and just fast enough to make one believe that they are going a great distance over a short amount of time.

this would look awesome in HD, what did you use to make it?

It was made from digital photographs, so it would be easy to rebuild at high definition. I'm a bit busy at the moment, but I'll get onto it as soon as possible.

  • Beautiful scenery, and the music was very fitting. :) I do agree that it would have been better to take a photo every five paces. It's going by a little too fast for me.
