This looks great! About how high up were you? What camera/lens did you shoot with?

Once again Keith fantastic work, I might have to check it out one day live.

That spot you had looked like a nice place to watch from....

    Nice Keith,
So were you shooting this with 2 cameras? One locked down on the intersection and one with a longer lens shooting tighter shots?
  • Keith Loutit plus 8 months ago
Hey Erik - I shoot a multi-camera setup for any live events as there's a lot going on, and time lapse restricts movements. This was all shot from on top of the Courthouse hotel - shared with a local news crew.

    Hi Keith,

I'm really in awe at what you do. Trying to imagine the amount of time that goes into the shooting and editing... really fantastic. Keep up the good work!

Throughout this vid I was wondering if it was actual footage or animation with plastic toys, very cool effect with the time elapse, excellent work in general.

I am astounded by this. One of the best "visual" things I've seen in months. The music. The timing. The imagery. Just fantastic.

Fantastically artful and highly original. Best presentation of the Mardi Gras Parade I have seen to date (I've photographed it with a media pass over the past 4 years, not including this one, so I've seen A LOT of images and footage come out on MG from the media pack) - well done!
  • Keith Loutit plus 8 months ago
Hi Lil - Great to get your comment & thank you! Were you there this year? Keith.
  • lil 8 months ago
No, not this year, I'm afraid. Looks like it was another fantastic parade though....and no doubt a lot of fun to shoot! I can't quite imagine the amount of effort to edit that many images in such a short period of time. It was hard enough to work through 1,500 or so shots and hand them over to a producer! ;)
  • Keith Loutit plus 8 months ago
Sorry Lil - I misread your message the first time! The event was an incredible subject, but I didn't really take stock of the detail until I got back to the footage. I have a fairly automated workflow to process the stills, but the difficult part is finding key stills for prints out of the thousands of frames.

Keith - as always this is very impressive work. I always like that you find unknown music and get permission to highlight these musician. This is very respected and I wonder if you have ever heard good feedback from any of these musician as you videos get 100,000 of views and these musician get exposure?
  • Keith Loutit plus 8 months ago
    Hi Jared,
Thanks again. The music selection is really important and I have a few key contacts such as Eddie who have the musical knowledge & connections to help me find the right track. It's work worth doing as plenty of publishers won't play the film the music is used without permission. I hope the musicians get as much out if this arrangement as I do! Keith.

Keith, I love your work. Truly inspiring films. How often do you activate the shutter when you're filming something like this? And at what rate do you play the frames back to speed it up? If this is proprietary, feel free to ignore the questions.

    Keep up the good work!

  •
  • matthew chaloux 6 months ago
You were the inspiration behind my recent time lapse video project. Unfortunately I had to batch blur my images in Photoshop afterward, but it achieved a relatively similar look. Of course, your subjects and narrative attempt (with Bathtub4) are hugely superior. By the looks of it, you are using a relatively short interval while shooting, and I think that's an area I could have improved in.

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for the inspiration and congrats on finding an awesome niche and getting it perfect. I have a huge respect for what you do, especially after attempting to recreate it and (in my opinion) coming nowhere close!
