I have this short scarf lying around, and I might just use that tip. Thank you, Simon Frankson, for showing a lesser man how to keep his neck warm.

I never saw the point of a scarf. If it's cold out then you'd be wearing a jacket, right? Unless you had a V-neck jacket. Then I could see the point.

As far as the Tie goes, would that knot not be considered a Double-Windsor?
  • Rob Mientjes 7 months ago
Nope. This is a misunderstanding. I and the rest of the civilised world say "Windsor" to what others call the Double Windsor. Therefor, the "Single" Windsor is actually a Half Windsor. And we all know that half is less than whole.

Ah, I see. Thank you for the correction

I question this. Maybe it's a cultural thing. I worked in a tuxedo shop for a few years and we always tied double windsors.

wikipedia agrees with rob, but it's unsourced. which is useful.

My dad mixes the terms and calls this one a double windsor and the other one a half windsor. there is not "windsor" proper to him

i've always resorted to the wrap-the-scarf-around-your-chin-and-neck-multiple-times technique. i suppose i'm not 'civilized' enough for this feat of sophisticated tyeing of knots.
