Finally got something out of Processing I like. This is a rendered version using Dave Bollinger's render example but the realtime version is identical and runs easily on my MacBook full screen.

Bass peaks trigger random scene change, background colour and select a new camera position. No user interaction at all. It's all random.

Music is the instrumental version of J'ai Pas Sommell by TTC. Taken from the album Batards Sensibles

    what's Dave Bollinger's render example ?

I searched and found his website and his work but no mention of rendering stuff non-realtime.

Sorry. Looks like the url maker on vimeo hates colons so you'll have to cut+paste.

And, for me anyway, Vimeo also has problems with long lines... I assume you meant the discussion at
    ?board=Sound;action=display;num=1174169711

Called "Synchronizing generative video + audio"?

how was this video done? im a new media student and im tryin to learn some new stuff
  • Stefan Goodchild 2 years ago
Hi Terrance, I used Processing which is a free open source java based tool for coding visuals.

    processing.org/

Download and have a look through the examples to give you an idea of where it's at. There's loads of examples around on the interweb and also tons of really handy code libraries to help you on your way.

Amazing work, I absolutely love it. Any advice on audio sampling? I really want to get into that arena, but I'm looking for a basic entry point.

In what context? There's a ton of code out there to use but I used ESS for the basic audio file stuff and Dave Bollinger's OCT class to provide a more musical set of values from the audio as ESS throws out FFT values which are musically not very useful!
