INCREDIBLE !!!!!!! More than that. I wish you will win. I raelly like how you've used the footage given for the contest. Wow, my hears and eyes just still can't believe it.
  • Remyyy plus 2 years ago
Everything is great. Yeah, super great ! Your textures, super nice, everything.
  • Jon-Kyle 2 years ago
haha thank you! i really appreciate it
  • Remyyy plus 2 years ago
Did you already upload it on Youtube and if so, what are the feedback so far ?
  • Jon-Kyle 2 years ago
yeah, i put it on there, but it's been more than two days since i uploaded and it still hasn't been added to the channel. i'm rather peeved about it.

i've gotten a couple comments, one of them was positive. the other one told me it was alright and to lay off the textures, and use more brightness and contrast (?). i know what brightness and contrast is, but i have no idea what he meant by that.

can't please them all i suppose
  • Matt Agnello 2 years ago
I agree about the textures. Sometimes I just wanted to see the pretty pictures better. =c) No idea what the viewer might've meant by brightness and contrast; maybe he or she just thought some pictures could've had better exposure, but I thought it all worked together very well. Great job.
  • Jon-Kyle 2 years ago
yeah, i completely agree with you about the textures. i tried to use them tastefully, but chances are i went a bit overboard with them. i was in a crunch because i thought the deadline was december 1st (hah!), so towards the final day of work, things did get a little sloppy.

    appreciate the comment, matt

Nicely done. I'm downloading as I watch it here. It will surely be even better from the .mov. Wonderful treatment. Good story, too.
  • Ben Millett 2 years ago
I'm glad you took it seriously. I used 'Glosoli' because I had it for the vimeo project and knew I couldn't do that song justice with any of my own footage. After reading your website, I had an even greater appreciation for your efforts. Definitely made it your own. I like that it's not about Sigur Rós. Makes me want to go redo mine. But alas, my dissertation has MUCH higher priority.
  • Jon-Kyle 2 years ago
thanks ben! and you did a great job, honestly. i put a ridiculous amount of time into this, and the only way i could do that is because i'm a homeschooled highschool student without a steady gig. no sane person would've spent that much time on something without being paid, haha.

    kick. ass.

great texture, wonderful effects. Very well done and inspiring!
Working on mine now, should have it up by Saturday.
  • Jon-Kyle 2 years ago
thanks blake! i'm excited, yet scared, to see your entry, hahaha.
  • Blake Whitman staff 2 years ago
mine is more cinematography based, but actually has similar parts to yours in a few ways. Depends on where I ultimately go with it.
  • Jon-Kyle 2 years ago
can't wait to see it! just beware with the youtube group, they're taking their sweet old time to add videos to the channel, so i'd try to get it up early on saturday so they have time to approve it. mine still hasn't been added to the channel, it's been about two days now.

I am completely blown away. I don't really know what you're up against, but it's going to have to be beyond incredible to beat this.

    I'm envious of your abilities.
  • Jon-Kyle 2 years ago
thanks! and i also really appreciate all the other comments too.

if you want to take a peak at some of the other entries, feel free to go over to the youtube channel: youtube.com/groups_videos?name=MinnHeima

note that for some reason the past 3 days worth of submissions haven't yet been added. (ugh)

Wow. This is why we worked to support HD. And this is why we work so hard to support Vimeo. Just outstanding. And this is why I believe that the future of music video online will be inexorably intertwined. Outstanding creation.
  • Jon-Kyle 2 years ago
and you all will never have any idea how much the people who use vimeo appreciate all the hard work you've put into everything. i can't wait to see, and be part of what's happening with video and film.

thanks a ton for the comment! means a lot to me

Great job. Good taste. Fine. Very well. Sense and sensibility

  • w.pasman 2 years ago
    I agree, nicely done!
The MTV like flashes at the end are not my taste but the fast texts about what is home are totally in place.

There is a technical issue, the deinterlacing went wrong somewhere. You can see this clearly for instance at 2:38, where the leaves wave back and forth. Looks to me that you downscaled the video with per-frame deinterlacing instead of per-field deinterlacing. I also tried the Quicktime version and it has the same problem.
  • Jon-Kyle 2 years ago
thanks for the comment! i noticed that too, but couldn't figure out the problem. i fixed it all up now, and it looks much better. however, i can't replace the video because i don't have enough space. guess i'll have to wait until monday.

Really very bloody rather spankingly good. You shivered me all up!

hah! this is the best comment i've ever seen. "very bloody rather spankingly" has to be one of the greatest phrases of all time. thanks for the comment, haha

  • Jarrard Cole 2 years ago
That looks great; really awesome. The piano rack focus to the glass at the beginning was by far my favorite. Care to share what software you used for your compositing?
  • Jon-Kyle 2 years ago
thanks! i used final cut express for everything. it was my first attempt at doing anything more than a simple little video in imovie. i'd love to use final cut pro and some after effects, but i think that'd kill my little macbook
  • Jarrard Cole 2 years ago
Where did you find those textures you composited with?
  • Jon-Kyle 2 years ago
couple different places. some of them were from stock.xchng, some others were from textureking. a couple i took myself
  •

    cool
  •
  • wow just simply amazing. what song did you use for this? im eager to get it into my itunes library =]
  • Jon-Kyle 2 years ago
thanks for the comment! the song is sæglópur by sigur rós. i highly recommend purchasing "()", "takk" or their newest album, "hvarf-heim". they also just released a dvd called "heima", which i highly, highly recommend. better yet, just pick it all up, hahaha. you won't regret it one bit

already ripped! compare the two here: grapefruit.quickshareit.com/share/X.jpg

EDIT: i've talked to the people who stole my design for the showcase. just hope they make the right decision.

this is crazy. i didnt really understand it, but it looks great. what did you edit it with?
  • Jon-Kyle 2 years ago
thanks sam! i used final cut express.
  •
  • Marshall 2 years ago
    Excellent work.
  •
  • Marshall 2 years ago
    What camera are you using?
  • Jon-Kyle 2 years ago
hey marshall. all the footage i didn't shoot i animated myself. the first two minutes or so are just photos i chopped apart and put together.

then there's some footage that sigur ros provided. it's unused shots from heima.

it's about half and half, as far as their footage and my own stuff
  •
  • Sam Morgan 2 years ago
    what is minn heima?
  • Jon-Kyle 2 years ago
minn heima means my home. sigur ros released a dvd titled 'heima' about iceland and their music. they had some left over clips, so they gave them to people to make their own rendition.

I liked the use of textures, whether or not you went overboard is more of a style preference then an objective thing to judge. Very nice work.

    unbelievable man.

That is one of my favorite songs of all time, and you made a video that felt so tied to the music organically.

    beautiful.
  • Jon-Kyle 2 years ago
    i really appreciate this, thanks!
  •
  • Javed Ahmed 2 years ago
Did you do absolutely the whole thing in FinalCut, or did you use something alongside for the animation? Like Adobe Flash or PhotoShop? p.s I love the ending with the coloured scenes and the rapid montage as the music finishes... Nice Work! Hope to see some more.
  • Jon-Kyle 2 years ago
everything was done in final cut. i used photoshop on only one scene, and that was the piano one. i masked out the keys and saved them so i could animate them later on.

everything else (text, etc..) was done right in final cut express.

thanks for the comment too, i appreciate it

You created your own world using someone else's material.
And it has a narrative too.
Your pacing is spot on and you rack the tension up perfectly with the music.
    It's excellent.
    I really enjoyed it.
    Thanks.

hey man, great video, seriously good stuff. listen one quick question for you, i missed out on the Minn Heima competition as didnt see it untill too late but i would still love to get my hands on some of those actual heima clips that they made available to download. The website you got them from initially seems to not be making them available for download anymore since the competition ended however. I really feel i have missed a sweet oppertunity here, can you advise me on how i could still get a copy of some of these clips please? all i can think of now is from youtube but then the quality is severly reduced. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! thanks
