Dave Lowensohn Plays SF Startup Weekend
In the middle of November, I organized an event called the San Francisco Startup Weekend. 132 individual entrepreneurs came together and founded a company helping to hookup worthy causes with people that wanted to help, we called it HelpHookup. Check it out on helphookup.com - coming soon to a facebook near you.
Dave Lowenshon of the duo "Speechwriters LLC" heard about the event through (the awesome) Samantha Murphy who heads up (the awesome) SMTV (smtvmusic.com) where she profiles previously unheard bands.
Dave stopped by and played an AMAZING three song acoustic set including Santa Monica, which is the song from this video. He also played Annie Dan, and another song I can't seem to find the title for (I'm naming it explode). I'll release a clip of Explode later on, maybe you can tell me the real name.
I cut together this little video of Santa Monica - mostly because I was just blown away and I thought of how awesome it would be to shoot a proper Speechwriters LLC video (with lights and junk!). Maybe someday... but if road should lead onto road and I never get the chance - at least I have this (pretty awesome if I do say so myself) video to offer :)
Enjoy,

That's a enough of my jibber-jabber, here's the lyrics:
------
I've been sitting here for a long time
About an hour south of the grape vine
Waiting for my ladder to come
Came here for a piece of the action
I waited to the point of distraction
Slowly getting sick from the sun
I remember waiting in line for
A shot at getting in through the side door
Cities we could never afford
Now it's just a matter of recall
Slowly getting used to the free fall
And all that we forgot to record
Started walking the streets again
Trying to get a taste of the oxygen
Feel like I'm getting so out of touch
I don't even get out of town that much
Now it's stop and go on the 45
I wonder if there's anyone left alive
Solitary holiday afternoons
I'm wishing I could call her but it's too soon
So tell me if you want to go
It's a long way home
To the Santa Monica that you know
And I'm already late
To make mine
Got a see through skin
Shares a border with the state that I'm in
I don't even try to get it down
Simple cowardice keeps me in this town
Now were destined to walk the earth
telling everybody we got here first
Watching as the bars and restaurants
Are slowly taking over by debutantes
'Cause Santa Monica's just a boulevard
Something you can put on your credit card
And I don't have the heart to come back for you
I worry about the future but its too soon.
So tell me if you want to go
Chorus
And you wouldn't believe all the things that you need
Just to carry your head up off the ground
In this town
Chorus.
{Dave, I apologize for spelling your last name wrong, I realize now that it's Lowensohn}

Is "Explode" really "Bobby D"? I wouldn't assume so but the song has the word explode in it.
