Super cool, I didn't know about quartz composer and I'm surprised to see how easy was to build that.
Do you know if there is a way to gte QC to talk to the usb port?

Absolutely - the Leopard version of QC has an 'HID Input' patch that will allow you to use any input device. Welcome to the fold!

I can't find the HID Input that you are talking about. Kepe up the tutorials, they are great.

What about a serial output. I was looking at your video and I was thinking of getting Zygote vimeo.com/352599 to respond to music. We presently doing (with processing) but it is a bit more complicated than what I see here. If QC can send serial data and that can translated into DMX we could do all kind of stuff pretty easy.

The HID Input is under Leopard only, unfortunately. For the Tiger version, I used Junxion steim.org/steim/junxion.html - this will convert any USB device to MIDI, which is supported by Tiger's Quartz Composer. There's also a free Max Patch that will do the job, I don't currently remember the name.

You could use QC to send MIDI or OSC data to be translated into DMX. Alternatively, the new Leopard version of QC has an SDK, so you could ostensibly write your own DMX patch for it.

Hey Momo what patch do you use to make the audio less jittery?
I mean the numbers that come from the audio analysis.

I tried it out, thanks for the inspiration, but my cube does not change height smoothly with music as the audio input. Is there something that can make movement smoother?

Thank you Momo! I've been struggling around with Quartz Composer for a while, but this gives a lot more insight in the program!
