A Night at the Winter Star Party
My current projects are blending video with still photography for a more complete representation of the subject matter. Prior to leaving for the Winter Star Party in February, I had viewed some very inspiring time-lapse video and wanted to try out the most basic of setups at WSP. Remember that my main priority at WSP was still photography through the telescope, so this was one of 3 cameras I had imaging simultaneously. It was more of an experiment with the technology and software. Some of the things that you see in the video: the Winter Milky Way is the vertical band of stars you see moving from center to right as time passes; red lights are the most common form of light for astronomers as it less harmful to one's night vision, the view is due south with Fidel's Cuba not too far off of the horizon; an occasional shrimp boat ventures across the screen; partly cloudy conditions are the norm at times and provides a nice opportunity for the imager to nap; trails from airplane lights; and the purple fringe of light on the right side is from the electronics heating up on the digital camera.
