please post more of your work here :-).. ant .. uk
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
No, you need to re-encode it in h.264 .mp4.
  • Anthony Johnson 2 years ago
how bout other downloads in .mov ?... will my ps3 play that or do i have to re encode too ?
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
The PS3 does not support .mov. You need .mp4 with h.264/AAC in it, or WMV or DivX/XViD with the new firmware.

me 4. Got mine off ebay for $500.00! It's on it's way now.

I had some questions about the 35mm adapter if anyone can help me:

What and where can I get the best ones (brand names, etc.)?

This may be a very stupid question, but the 35mm adapter is just an adapter to connect a multitude of lenses correct? As you can tell, I have not studied camera lenses that much and am just getting into filming.

    Thank you to whoever helps!

People out there have no idea what's coming up with consumer video. Just yesterday, I was listening to some film dick rant about how ugly HDV is. If I had his email, I'd send him this.

    Awesome stuff.

very nicely done! how did you keep the HV20 dry? :)

Taped some clear sandwhich bags together, put em over the camera. Made a mattebox out of tin-foil.

  • Javed Ahmed 2 years ago
Hey Solomon, how'd you manage to make the shot fairly steady while running up a hill without using a steadicam? Did you use some sort of camera-mount to hold the whole thing?
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
He replied on this. Just his tripod. Keeping the tripod steady, condensed, is the cheap way to get steadier shots than handheld.
  • Javed Ahmed 2 years ago
Ooops! My mistake, didn't read that sorry. Thanks for that, I think I'll ditch my 'GlideCam' for the hand-held tripod method... the GlideCam wobbles like crazy, it's like your sailing on a cruise ship in really stormy weather.
  • twoneil 2 years ago
Same with the Steadicam Merlin. Although it's easier to control and balance, you will still see the slightest 'bump' and 'swing' of the camera. I have to practice more.
  • Javed Ahmed 2 years ago
I've seen your Merlin test footage, it looks a lot better than the GlideCam. This thing works rather well when I'm moving about fast all over the place, but when I stand still it either continues with this constant rocking motion (left-right-left-right) as if it were placed on a rocking-chair. Or it spins completely upside-down and revolves back to it's original position (very steadily) as if I were an astronaut. They should provide some sort of button or trigger which locks the mechanism, so when you are still you could lock it then when you're on the run again, you just release the button on the fly. Problem solved... I've made a custom adjustment and it works brilliantly now, it's what I'll be using from now on. I've also attached a leg-like part at the bottom, so when you lock it, it also works as a MonoPod.

How in God's name did you export the HD? I've been trying all day and each test ends up grainy and nowhere near HD. I'm using Sony Vegas 8.0

    Thanks Bro!

Hi Solomon, I've ordered a HV20 camera myself, and I love you sandwich-bag solution against the rain. (I live in Norway, rains 90% of the days. hehe) I'm just wondering how you made the tin-foil mattebox stick to the camera/bags?
  •

    Great Video!
    quick question.
when we you were exporting, what setting did you use to get max quality?
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
He exported at 720-24p WMV, using Sony Vegas. The original file is available for download to check the bitrate.

Gotta admit after making two dvds of the various clips of footage I've downloaded from vimeo and watched in my living room, this was the clip at the top that made me decide on this camera. And I bet you this guy's was a pro paid by Canon to do this! After all, where are his other clips? HA!
  • Caleb Andrews 1 year ago
Haha, he's not a pro paid by Canon. I promise. He's my best friend and an absolute tech-nerd. Here's a short film that him and I worked on for the 48 Hour Film Festival which he recently uploaded less than a day ago. Enjoy!

How did you do SlowMotion on Camera?
you said 60i... isnt shooting in HDV24P done in 60i automatically??

How would you change 60i or other features?
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
PF24 is not the same as true 60i. PF24 is 18 progressive frames & 12 interlaced all wrapped in a 60i stream and requires pulldown removal to make that PF24 format true 24p. True 60i is 60 frames and 60 fields in a 60i stream.

So he shot in PF24 the normal scenes, removed pulldown and edited. He shot the slow-mo scenes in true 60i, he didn't remove pulldown (not required), he added it to the 24p project, and slo-mo'ed it. Clear now? :)
  • Alex Grenier 2 years ago
always there to save the day :-)
  • David Morris 6 months ago
Eugenia, i still dont understand how he did the slo-mo. I own an HV-20 in PAL (so it does 50i, not 60i) and if i shoot a 50i sequence then import it into final cut pro and then slow it down, it looks crap and jittery. The video here makes it look like solomon shot the slow mo at a high framerate, which he didnt. It was shot at 30fps. Without using Optical Flow in Motion - how on earth did he get it looking so good while simply using the standard speed adjustment in the vegas package? (I assume it's nothing to do with Vegas, so it should be able to be replicated in final cut pro?)
  • krewcial 17 days ago
you need to use JES Deinterlacer. import your 50i clip, deinterlace, select double movie length and you'll get a clip where all interlaced fields have been made into single frames.

I've used the very same technique for this video : vimeo.com/6462883
