How did you have the camera set when you shot Reno? Looks nice and nicely shot. I see you found the transition effects button... :)

1080/60i, P mode, manual exposure. The transitions are Vegas', although I copied/pasted some filters on some of the scenes and unfortunately it also copied the transitions too. My original idea was to have fewer transitions. I can't see the transitions real time on Vegas as my PC is old now, so I was using them a bit blindly.

hehe :) like the colors and angles very much. Would be nicer without the transition effect tough. Overall very nice!

why did you not use the night scene mode ?
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
I don't use any custom scene modes usually. I prefer to expose and setup the shots manually.

Besides, if I use night mode, the camera will try to get as many details as possible, while I was trying to darken everything in order to make the lights more impressive. Otherwise, it would have looked like cheap video.

Really like your work, you did right by not using night mode, I have JVC GZHD7, it gives more greish picture if we on that feature! I am not aware about Canon though! I would really appreciate if you can post somewhere Full HD version of same file. uploading.com allow us to upload up to 300MB size file, if you would like to upload your original clip!
    Thanks,
    Kaushik

By full HD you mean 1920x1080? I would think that the 720p should look "ok" on a 1080p screen too.
  • Kaushik 2 years ago
Yes I wanted to have original clip which you have captured, if you would lilke to upload I would appreciate!

    Thanks

I like this very much, crisp, clean lines, of the neon lights. The weather was very cooperative for you. I had no idea how much Reno had changed. You ought to put your own video on the HV20 site.

The original footage is 5 GBs, it is not possible to just upload it. If you require it as stock footage, I will have to send it through DVD media.

If you are talking about the 720p file I uploaded to vimeo, this is already offered btw, it is available for downloading.

I was asuming that this file would be very huge, and it is not possible to upload, and unfortunetly now I am in India so it not posible for me to have it, anyway I like that clip, indeed it really good work! I already have 720p version of same. Thanks!

OK now I get it Eugenia. For awhile there I was wondering what you were replying to me about.

I like how fast you cut from shot to shot, although personally I would have preferred to see fewer of those transitions. may be thats just me :)
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
Yes, as I clarified above, many of them were copied automatically when I did "paste attributes" to copy the color grading filters. The original intention was to have fewer transitions with only crossfades usually. But the "shape shifiting" transition was kept copied around, and because transitions are not real-time on Vegas, I didn't notice it until after the final render.

Wow, can't believe the HV20 works so well in such low light, I haven't taken mine out in the dark yet... I've been used to the Sony HC1 making the footage so grainy in the dark, that I'd completely given up taking my camera out once the sun was down. I guess I've underestimated my HV20... vampire slaying it is then.

Wow! Very impressive, good skills. I am starting to think about upgrading my Canon XL's to some HD cams, they just don't cut it compared with this footage on this medium.
