Inspired by Charlie McCarthy's morning walk video. Shot with shutter speed set to 2000 then slowed down to 45%.

Music by: The Album Leaf

Man i especially like how you do your typography!
  • Thank you. It's pretty basic but there is something cool, in my opinion, with the way it looks. I can't pin point it.
  • janocjapun 7 months ago
Yeah, but i think thats the point – being basic in a proper way, using balanced size-proportions and typefaces ... i like the way you do it :)

the colors are great, specially for me with your shoes, your blue jean, the ground and the snow. That's really a great shot.
  • Thanks a lot Remyyy. I really enjoy the color myself. The actual file on my computer looks really awesome with its true HD quality. I'm still having some issues with getting the best HD quality for vimeo with H.264. I feel like I'm not doing something right because the HD that is shown on vimeo doesn't look as crisp as some of the ones Ive seen from other people. I've been running some tests here and there and one day I'll really figure it out. For now, this'll do :) Cheers
  • You mean when I go to export just checkmark "deinterlace?" I always deinterlace. Hmmm...
  • Yeah but I've done this before and have, what seems like, mediocre results. For instance, look at the quality in this video compared to mine.

Ill see what I can come up with.

A lot of the quality on that video come from the fact it was shot on film, with professional lighting and graded D5.

i love the crunching sound your shoes make in the very beginning :)
  • Yeah me too :) I like your hair and your bike.

Publiced it on my blog, really nice video. Also great to see users on Vimeo inspire each other to make video's.
  • Thanks Bob. Yeah Vimeo folk seem to be really inspiring and helpful towards one another. I love this site.

did you film your self, how did you did it, i see your step are taken very carefuly, the sound in the steping is great, and i dont know how much crisper you want it cause looks pretty cool,.
  • Yeah I filmed with my camera mounting on my tripod and just held the feet of the tripod while while camera was upside down. I then flipped it when editing. Charlie McCarthy has a video explaining the idea.

A lot of my passengers criticize the Album Leaf and ask how I can stay awake at night while listening to it. It makes me wonder how they could fall asleep listening to it...?
  • Yea right man, I love the album leaf. Very hypnotic and electronic. I like the stuff where they don't sing though. The tracks where they do, I find mediocre.

Don't remember commenting on this. I liked it alot, simple but I like it for some reason! :)
  • Thanks a lot. Sorry it took so long to say thanks

Great job, Michael! How did you hold the camera so steady?
  • I had it mounted on my tripod then turn that upside down and held it out in front of me. The fact that it's slowed down also hides a lot of the jittery motion. Trust me :) Thanks for the comments

I think the central moment for me was at 40 secs, when your foot kicked the twig into the air. It had an almost otherworldy look, as though the timing were not quite what you would see if you observed it in person.
  • Im surprised youre the first to say something about moment in time. I thought the same thing. I do it twice. The first time, I kick up a bunch of snow. The second time, I snap a twig. Nice observation David.

Yea, the typography is awesome. So is the clip.
  • Thank you. I like the simplicity of it. Gotta thank Andrew Kramer from Videocopiot.net for that one. He uses that technique a lot in his tutorials.

I'd love to see his tutorials but looks like his domain name expired.
  • No it didnt, Ive been there today. VideoCopilot.net

    should work
