One of the key stops on our regular pilgrimages to the Big Island is a drive out to Kapa'au, ancestral home of my mother's side of the family, to visit the graves of my maternal grandparents at the Kohala Jodo Mission. Near the very northern tip of Hawaii, tucked away on a hill behind the original King Kamehameha statue, this small temple is the epitome of peace and serenity.
