Each year between the months of April and June, female harbor seals begin to give birth on the beaches of Pacific Grove. On this April morning while walking to the city marina, I stopped to watch the youngest addition to the beach work his way out of the surf and nurse from his tired mother. The white fences you see are put up seasonally to help protect the animals from too much human attention.
