At several of the beaches in Monterey Bay, CA, USA.

Shot with a Canon HV20 in 1080/60i, the first half of the video uses the WD-H43 wide angle lens. Edited with Vegas Pro 8, graded with Magic Bullet, exported as .MP4. Music and video are licensed separately under the Creative Commons "BY" 3.0 license.

Great video. I loved all of it, and the wonderful colors. If I was to change any of it, it would not have the marina in there. I love marinas and boats but without a single subject or a focus, the scanning did not work for me.

Otherwise I wish I was there. The angles of the rocks and water were great along with the single persons shadow. Nice touch (if it was intentional) : )
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
It was not intentional when shot, but I left it in during editing. :)

Nice video! What profile did you used to make the .mp4? The 1080p-30.bat one? I did that one on my video but the WMV version got better, the .mp4 one got too blocky, but yours didn't. Thanks!
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
I used 720p Vegas Pro 8, not 1080p ffmpeg. FFmpeg is only a good idea if your video editor does not support MP4 exports, like VMS doesn't. WMV export via Vegas/VMS is extremely slow too, FFmpeg's encoder is 3 times faster than WMV on Vegas.

Do you have any guide of exaclty how you did compress this?
    Thanks

Very well done! You are quite talented. I liked it a lot.

I am trying to figure out Vegas Pro 8 during the 30 day trial and whether I should stay with PC based equipment and software or if I should make the move to an IMAC.

    Yes
I would reduce the contrast a little and the compressor has a hard time with the waves, especially at 1:48-1:55
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
Which compressor? Vimeo's? Vimeo re-encodes at ~2mbps, so there's nothing I can do to fix that, it's low bitrate. The only thing I can do is make sure that my export at 5mbps doesn't have the problem.

I noticed the artefacts already in the .unk file.
Vimeo greatly enhances the artefacts but as you say not much you can do about that ;-)

Beautiful HD video! I loved the water crashing on the rocks and the awesome sunset. Your video and the sound of the crashing waves with the music gave me goose bumps. You are very creative and talented!

Eugenia, can I use this nice video to add some subtitles with spiritual sentences, just as I do in vimeo.com/636317? I would like it very much!

Hello Father Jorge, go ahead and re-use the video and/or the music. The video is licensed under the very liberal CC-BY 3.0 license, which allows you to reuse and remix it, as long as my credit roll stays in tact (I don't care much about my video not getting attribution actually, but the music is also licensed under the CC-BY and it is not my own music, so the music's CC-BY license asks for attribution).

So in a nutshell (I hope I didn't confuse you), as long as the credit roll stays in tact, go ahead and reuse it and add the spiritual sentences! :)

God I love the light at 2.40 after the wave crashes. Stunning colours, did you apply any FX or tweaks for the colours? Sorry if thats already answered above , i could'nt read everything.

This has got to be one of the more Pro looking films I've seen with the HV20.
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
Thank you for the kind comment Toolance. Yes, as I wrote in the description, the video was "graded with Magic Bullet". Magic Bullet is a filter for many editors that let's you tweak the colors. This is not called color correcting (because correcting would be to just fix the white balance or fixing the camera's inability to capture the real view), but it's called color grading for making it different than it really was in plain view. All movies and most TV series are color graded.

Was the entire thing in 60i? I have read some of your threads on hv20 forum and I believe they say that 24p will give you a much crisper look but this looks great! Is it worth bothering with 24p and pulldown??
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 8 months ago
That was all 60i and exported in 30p. I don't use PF24. Very rarely I do.
