Superb - transformative power of art and process captured in a piece which has aesthetic integrity and emotional kick.

Glen has captured my making process in a beautiful and intensely poetic way. From the gathering of local raw materials to the intimate gestures of making, then into the fierce heat of the kiln with the curling flames as they lick and sear the work - it is all there however briefly. It leaves you shimmering in a mirage of white kiln heat before the clamming up of the kiln to start its long slow cooling. This was the last firing of this kiln, and this visual poem with haunting sound by Jethro is a fitting elegy to its life and to 'Working Fire'. With my deep gratitude.

glen, this is really wonderful work. this film represents an embedded ancient/modern thing that's shown in both the filmmaking and in the making of the ceramics. your exceptional understanding of materials has always excited me about your work. yes, i agree - 'intensely poetic'. mazel tov!

You have shown us a very artistic piece of cinematic expression, Glen. Those languid transitions and slow pans set the mood superbly, and Jethro's sound track matched- in, soothing the imagery. A poetic story well told! Five wows.

Just wanted to say that this film is amazing and the music is so beautiful, so ambient and captivating. The film and music entwine perfectly.

Its always hard to relate to someone’s love/ obsession for a material, but I feel the film really shows the intermit and personal relationship between maker, material and process.
The Biography of each artist is brilliant I wish there was that in every exhibition!! Again it helps to relate to the artists, and their reasons for making.

Congratulations on really successful and immersive show. A show that everyone can relate to in so many levels.

    Hey Shauna.

Thanks for your comments. Yep. Jethro's work is amazing. (music) The collaboration was really enjoyable. It was based almost entirely on sound and vision. I'd send him my stuff, he'd respond, i'd respond, and so on. We spoke (phone conversation J in Melb. me in Hobart) only twice and near the very end. Amazing what you can do with out words! And of course none of this would have happened without Ben, who's generosity, drive and faith in my abilities was unstinting. Michael and Neil were amazingly generous, open and honest... just what you need when recording and editing a life-worth of commitment. It's called trust! Yay!

    Thanks again
    Glen

You've all done a great job at articulating why people are drawn to the material and process of making pots. A great celebration of Ben's work and also an important to piece for broadening the ceramic audience. Bravo!

Saw this video reviewed in the wood-fire ceramics mag 'Log Book'. Wonderful integrated piece of work- wish I could use a video camera whilst firing my kiln (or indeed at all for that matter!)
