Testing the Canon 5D Mark II with a super wide angle lens while biking on King street and Yonge street in Toronto. Unfortunately it started raining and a raindrop on my wide lens ruined the second half of the shot.
This was shot a few weeks ago and was before Canon release the Manual Exposure firmware. It'll be interesting to test different shutter speeds for this now.

Dangerous but what a fun ride. Thanks for posting. How do you like the quality of your Sigma lens?

Your CRAZY for handholding the camera.
    You should buy a Gorillapod.
  •
  • Retner 6 months ago
are you holding the camera with your hand?!! ggg you almost crash with the FedEx truck.

I like it though, put some music, or do a mini time lapse.

    gj.

I've tried Gorillapod, Manfrotto Super clamp (Justin Clamp) but for any kind of mounting so far, the camera shake is just too much. Handheld smooths out the motion a little bit which makes it better than those mounting options.

    Pretty cool!

Question for you: What are you using to convert your HD .mov files to something that you can upload to Vimeo (.avi)? I recently got the 5DII and haven't figured out how to do that yet.

Hectic ride. Thanks for doing that so I don't have to. I'm curious what type of protest was going on.
  • Carl Farrell 6 months ago
There was a peaceful protest in Toronto a couple weeks back about sending Canada into Sri Lanka to help out the civilians caught in the crossfire. There was a couple hundred Tamils there for a number of days. Unfortunately, I think most of the media glanced over why there was a protest and focussed more on the fact that there was a protest.

    Toronto needs cycle lanes!
  •
  • Bauke Karel 6 months ago
Interesting, very different from cycling in Amsterdam! We have bicycle lanes and general bicycle-friendliness, but you have long stretches of straight, uninterrupted road. (In case you're interested, I have a cam-on-bike video in my videos. Unfortunately I don't have a 5DmkII ;))

I did a time-lapse using a vivicam, I mounted it on my handlebars using those plastic ties (those ones that keep toys mounted in their display cases before they're purchased) and you are right, there is a lot of shake and roaming. But the sped-up footage over eight kilometres is interesting. It's on YouTube.

NICE! Reminds me when I was a kid. Always rode handsfree, in the traffic, with bags from the market for my Mom, and school books and my transistor radio. In those days we didn't have helmets. I only got tore up once when my chain broke. Ah, the good ole days.

Hey Sam you're going to have to do this again with the new manual controls! I looked for myself when you got to Yonge & Queen - but I was in the middle of the crowd of protesters already with my LAME 40d.

So I guess the only way to mount this thing would be with some crazy steady-cam contraption that's weighted. Maybe with a production budget ;)

This should be a new Disney ride or something. The handlebars are right there, but you can't reach them...not even when you're careening out of control straight for the FedEX truck!!!

LOL Nice vid. And nice riding. I don't think the water droplet messed it up all that much.

I don't think I will try this with my 5DmkII until I can get a nice bike rig! Too dangerous.

wow. i dunno if i would be that ballsy to pull that off. maybe i'll strap on some rollerblades and ride around the park.

You are a cycling accident statistic waiting to happen. If any of those car doors (parked or otherwise) had opened even a fraction, you and your camera would be instant Road Pizza. Please consider the costs of such accidents to our already-strapped health care system before you ever ride like that again.

do ppl actually realize that the super wide angle lens makes this look way more dangerous than it is? the objects seem closer than they actually are.
stop freaking out and enjoy the ride.

It's fun doing bike videos. I hope Pentax comes out with a FF DSLR so I could use the 12-24mm and get 122° FOV.
