1. Hoedown from Rodeo
I created a music video for the Classical music work 'Hoedown' from the Rodeo Suite by Aaron Copland. It is a stop motion animation in which various characters, inspired by Cowboy and Western films, come to life from the musical score. It was made for my final year degree in Visual Communication at the Glasgow School of Art.

I've been watching your inspiring video with my Mum, Marjory - Aunt Mabel's daughter. Aunt Marjory sent her the link. We particularly enjoyed the way you reflected the music in the animation!!! It really brought it to life!
Very well done and good luck on the next project!!!!;D

This is very cool! I wonder if you know that this song is most well known in the USA for being in a beef commercial? It adds to the cowboy aspect of your project!

Brilliant. I loved that you used the score sheets to make it! Very creative, and you can tell you put tons of effort in. (And although i'm sure this is one of the parts to make I especially liked the tumbleweed haha)

Amazing! I just signed up to Vimeo just so I could leave this comment! What a thrill to see this great music while paying homage to the beauty of a printed score.

I am a composer myself, film and concert music, and therefore I am a fan of Copland. Great, great job!

We are watching this again four months after degree show because my 8-year-old son Ciaran remembered it and wanted to see it again. He says: 'Bang on!' I say: 'Superb!' Improves with age...

Very nice and creative stop motion animation...

    However, FYI...
...A "hoedown" is not typically related to "cowboy-like" western part of the US's cultural entertainment... specially with regards to ranching (not too be confused with farming).

Hoedowns are more related to farming based Southcentral and Southeastern part of the US - specially the Appalachian areas of the US. Unfortunately, there are many urban and eastern interpretations of associating a 'hoedown" being anything western... and, as a result there were numerous older east coast originated musicals/movies that mistakenly use the term "hoedown" as related to anything south or west of the east or northeast coast - including the central high plains ranching areas.

In fact, the music you choose by Copland is titled
"Hoedown" ... which probably explains the title to your video. But... this is a classic early 40's misinterpretation of the use of term hoedown to be associated with cowboys. Regardless, the re-make of this Copland song must have been choosen by the beef industry's marketing because it just sounds good (...And, a sidenote is that Beef Industries version omits the typicall heavy fiddle sound of hoedown music and replaced it with Coplan's violin orchestra style of playing - thereby reducing it's more hoedown-like sound).

All that being said... you made a very enjoyable music and animation.

(Aaron Copland - Brooklyn born jewish composer who studied Music in Europe... admired Russian Composers and did travel to Mexico and Africa to study music... but, spent most of his life in New York).

    Hi Joe
Thanks for the comment - that stuff about the misinterpretation of the term 'hoedown' is really interesting!
I'm glad you found the animation enjoyable.
