This is brilliant -- I loved it. It shows in an easy and accessible way how a book is made -- and what a book. As a professional of 42 years' standing it takes a lot to impress me -- I was impressed. Bravo!

Really amazing John, congratulations on such a huge undertaking. I can only imagine how proud you are of the success.

What is the price for one of these books?
  • John Carrera plus 4 months ago
The deluxe copy shown in the video is from an edition of 26 is $4600, but there is also the regular run of 100 books (doesn't have fingertabs) in $3200 binding, $2600, and $1800, and now from Chronicle Books a very splendid $35 version. Chronicle has a contest on their website where you can WIN the deluxe in the photo!

This is incredible I've only created 2 books from scratch the entire process was so stressful. Never had to set type by hand though that adds onto the complexity you sir are a brilliant skilled madman! :)

    I really loved this.

I am a young Sydney artist who makes small editions of hand crafted storybooks. Often, people don't realise how many little steps are involved in creating each one, or the thought and passion that drives it from concept to the finished product.

There isn't much awareness in Sydney about bookbinding. It is a dying art and I think videos such as this really highlight what a beautiful and intricate process it is.

That was incredibly impressive. You must have incredible patience and focus! There were so many intricate individual processes, did you mess any up?! I could see me getting to the finger indents to help turn the page and my cutter would go ripping through the pages!!

This is an amazing project. I have just made my first artist's book with a colleague and it was a big deal for me, learning how to bind pages, making decisions on what the cover should be, pasting and precisely cutting boards and papers. I am just blown away by this wonderful handmade endeavor and admire not only your book skills, but your documentation of the ten year event. Just beautiful.
