18. Canon PowerShot SX1 IS handheld HD video with zoom…
5 months ago
A 38 second unmodified handheld HD video taken with the Canon PowerShot SX1 IS, using its 1080p mode. The camera was using its default settings including Image Stabilisation set to continuous.

The SX1 IS has a 20x optical zoom range equivalent to 28-560mm and you'll see a demonstration of this during the clip. The clip starts and ends with the camera fully-zoomed out.

Feel free to download the original MOV file and check out the quality on your own computer!

You may also be interested in the following videos filmed moments apart, allowing you to make a direct comparison between the cameras.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1 720p AVCHD: vimeo.com/5239761

I'll also be uploading a 1080p video from the Panasonic Lumix GH1 soon.

These are part of future articles to be published at cameralabs.com.

This is NOT in HD ***
    Not a fair comparison

Sorry Goldenboi, the video was uploaded in HD, but unbeknown to me my Vimeo HD allowance had run out, so it was only shown in SD here. The original file was always available to download though. I have since upgraded to a PLUS account and reconverted the video - it should be showing in HD now...

David, you'll need to give more information than that! What's going wrong with your videos, and have you uploaded a sample to illustrate it? Remember mine was taken in very bright light, and it won't perform as well under dim conditions...

I put in several hours to honestly compare similar videos from the HX1, SX1, GH1 and the EOS 5D II

I was looking just for quality and detail. Since it is next to impossible to have 4 HD screens parallel running the 4 videos simultaneously I did the next best thing. I grabbed comparable frames and compared them.

In the end to check my findings I checked the histograms from the frames too.
You are welcome to have a look at:

Hy! I have the same "problem" like David. Like him, I also decided to buy the SX1 IS after looking at your videos (after reading your articles about the camera). For an example you can take a look at my video ( vimeo.com/7239026 ). I just want to know was there anything that I could`ve done to make my video look better? Is it the light that makes your video so clear? The thing that bothers me the most are the "dots" on black surfaces...I have to say that I am not an expert, so any advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you for your time.
