While in Bhutan, we visited the new Pemacholing Nunnery in the central part of the kingdom. Founded about 8 years ago, the nunnery is the first in Bhutan to provide women with the higher teaching of Buddhism, effectively making it the first Buddhist college for women. In this ceremony, a practitioner envisions cutting ones body into pieces and offering it to all sentient beings to dispel negativity and to repay karmic debt. As the ultimate example of selflessness, it is one of Tibetan Buddhism highest teachings.
