Superb! Those angles are amazing. How many cameras were used in this production?
  • Thank you, we had four cameras that day, however most of the footage is from two we had on top of a building on the Champs Élysées

Just curious: At 3.5 FPS, the Mark II can shoot continually?. Or stop shooting passed a time?.

It´s not better to record directly the sequences and later speed it up to reach these 3.5 fps?
  • When shooting "jpg small" you only have the battery and the CF card as limiting factors... and eventually the life of your shutter. Shooting in continuous mode means 14.000 clicks/h (per camera)

You might have a similar result with the movie mode, but I do prefer the relatively big jpgs to work with.

Must be thousands of shutter counts per camera.

    Superbe !

    Great!

I love how you can see the swarm movements of the soldiers, like how around the three minute mark you see waves propagate in the group because the front row stops suddenly.

    yeah yeah yeah.... greeeeeeeeeeeaaaaat!

did you shoot on remote via cable / wft or using CF cards? I mean it must have been quite a load of data.

and how about importing the files into final cut? is there a plug-in for placing the shots in order with the right fps you need or did you do it picture per picture ? :)
  • Claude Lyneis 3 months ago
In FCP before when you set up the project, you can select the time length of each frame. Then you import the photos all at one time and they will be in order with the right time dependence. I haven't figured out how to change the time length of the frame afterwords.

Hey if you don't mind me asking. What kind of program u used to edit this wonderful piece? And how did u make them look so much like toys. Merci
  • It's edited in Final Cut. The "Toy Effect" comes mostly from the use of Tilt/Shift lenses. Camera position, frame rate, and lighting conditions play a big role as well. Cheers!

  • macjunki 3 months ago
did you blur the picture in post? was a mattebox involved? I'm just wondering how you got that short dof look at that distance! maybe I'm just stupid and you just shot wide open. Great video by the way, keep 'em coming!
  • Thank you very much. This explains quite well how to do it: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tilt-shift_photography

Great vid. I take it that this was using that plugin that blurs selected part of the frame so that in the right kind of wide shot we get this minature model effect. Excellent way to utilise it. I guess its most effective in urban settings.
