64 Days - Part 1
If you're new to the project, you can catch up here hi.projectpedal.com
64 days was the exact length of Pedal's production, the number of days we were out on the road. It feels really exciting to be releasing episodes again, I've been editing and filming the last few nights till 5 in the morning, and although it's been hell on my cold, I've had a blast doing it.
I'm anxious to get started on part 2 - when Amanda and I originally began writing the production related episodes, we were expecting to fit everything into 3 cuts. But that doesn't look to be the case any longer - we're finding we have a lot more to say, and many different layers of the whole experience to cover.
We'd love to hear your feedback - it will help greatly in deciding what questions to answer in what order. Thanks for watching.

I hope someday the project does well enough to earn a screening at your theater :) A guy can dream, right?
It was one of the most engaging, interesting, and memory provoking pieces of content I've consumed in a while.
Being the first episode I'd seen, I didn't quite know what was going on, but I think was a good thing. This video stands on it's own.
The idea of narrating old, candid videos with the characters thoughts was fantastic. I can't recall anywhere else that's done it so effectively.
I'm your newest fan.
It means the world to us.
This was very well done. Very creative. Very unique.
I guess I'll be checking the other episodes...
I'm really glad you liked it though - thanks for commenting!
I'm so touched and curious... and I too have watched this episode out of context so I have no idea what is going on. But, you've caught hold of me with your thoughtful tone and beautiful, beautiful images.
I guess it's time I catch myself up. I so look forward to what comes next.
I'm also curious about the Maine connection...
I hope you enjoy the other episodes. And the Maine connection is simply where the trip ended :) we started in Anacortes, WA and ended in Bar Harbor 64 days later.
We should be Thanking YOU for introducing a heart warming and very engaging footage to everyone and especially a noob like me =p
Loved the footage, loved the commentary, loved the audio.
Keep at it!!!! Let your passion soar =)
god bless!
You are making spectacular memories. I'll be waiting for the next episode.
Very interesting project.
Especially after the filming has been done - and it's time to tell the story, it's a heavy load sometimes - I don't want the last 5 years of work to just sputter out.
There were many parts of the trip that were fun... there were many parts that were impossible... we laughed, cried, bled, screamed, and somehow managed to make it till the end. *shrug* Hope that makes more sense.
I hope you're right about it being great... I'll settle for decent :)
Intense. But so perfectly so.
Thanks!
As a fellow documentarian... can`t wait to see Pedal!
1. Cheers mate or
2. Nice one
I admire (envy) your photography and yet again am inspired by your work. Thank you.
I'll be blogging/podcasting this episode very soon. Also, I need to chat to you sometime soon.
The parts where the sound becomes very high and then abruptly stops *is* intentional. We're realizing that the silent idea might not work so well on a computer, too many people think something is wrong :P
But thanks again - if you have time, you should check out some of the earlier episodes to get a better sense of what these episodes are about :)
The kit we used can be seen here: sgpro.co.uk/
Yea, the Fx1 was the crew's (who live in Belgium), and the Z1u is mine, so all the "present" stuff was filmed with that.
Okay, I tried to figure out what a 0lux cam was, so I could sound smart :P but I don't know what that is :) what do you mean by that?
The Z1u does alright - gets enough that I can play with in Final Cut. Not that I know much about that :P but.. I get by :)
THANKS
the textures were great, esp the type writer and the papers gently fluttering.
i really loved the shot in the supermarket. im not sure why. it just feels... honest. i love the linear bright feel and the shlumpy feeling of the lady. haha :)
Thanks for the compliments on the ep' - and yes, not to rub anything in :P but I *do* kinda like my camera... it's nice. Actually, it's a bit more than I need most of the time, but it's still nice.
I think the supermarket shot is one of my favorites just because of the older lady - I don't know who she is, but she's great :)
It is nice to listen and watch someone else's point of view in life rather than dealing with my own shit so thanks from the bottom of my heart.
I'll have to look more into Film4, I don't know much about it. I guess I never thought about the credits being anything special :) fading to black just felt awkward...
As for the negative energy - it's very, very intentional ;) I'd actually be pretty down on myself if no one picked up on it. And it's there for... some very good reasons - which we haven't dealt with yet.
This episode starts, like it mentions, 6 months after we finished our trip - and "negative" energy is how I felt and then some.
I love filmmaking - and the reasons I felt the way I did have nothing to do with that :)
The episodes will get a little more positive very soon... and then they'll get a lot more negative :P
Thanks for the great comment!
i too believe that once our film is complete we will have "a masterpiece that is worthy of an art-house cinema release!" but these episodes are a behind-the-scenes look at the making-of our film, nothing more. they are very personal, and the tone we tried to convey in this episode was how mike felt once we returned from filming and the troubles he was having getting back into the swing of writing. and i must stress, the production trip last summer we spent filming was extremely hard on our personal relationship for reasons we haven't gotten into yet. hopefully once our 64 days series is complete, this will make more sense to everyone.
ps - i get into this topic a bit here: tinyurl.com/6xfumv
I love this little movie clip although I have no idea whatsoever this project is about - but I certainly will investigate it further and follow you guys. The mood in the clip made me wanna look it to the end - looking forward to see more. Just wanted to express my thoughts on your work.
Great!
Thanks so much for signing up just to leave a comment - glad to have you on Vimeo :) Hope you enjoyed the other episodes - keep in touch! Thanks again!
