Well, I asked all my neighbours if I could connect my MIDI keyboard with their lightbulbs in each appartment. After that, I plaid my music while my camera was filming the facade of the building. It's was as simple as that. Satisfied? ;p
:D Hey! I was kidding about the neighbours and the lightbulbs!
Well, I know that it is possible with Max/Msp but it would be a monstrous installation. And I'm too shy to ask anyway...
Well, let's say that it was a fastidious post-production work.
Thank you all for your kind comments (any critics?), I didn't expect this. :)
It's weird, but I actually think this is a wonderful learning tool, for someone trying to visualize how ambient music is constructed. Not only is it beautiful, it's practical too. (Then again, how practical is Ambient music?) Either way, this totally blows my mind.
Looks great. Did you use that plugin for After Effects that triggers different visuals depending on the pitch and amplitude of the audio track? I forgotten the name of it..
That's right, I remember reading that it was used for BT's Binary Universe DVD.
Hmmm, I might have to invest in a copy of After effects one of these days.
Nice work. Imma have to start doing more in Aftereffects too. Like the music alot. It was pretty late at night when I saw this and the music had the prefect mood.
Thks, the last part is perfect before going to sleep. The music was made with several sounds I recorded in this appartement. No synth and no external sounds.
Nice. Yeah I can hear some of the "sounds" now, but still sounds like music to me :-) I'm a visual guy, not so much music, but I have a friend who is a musician that I have picked up alot from over the years. I know enough about music to appreciate it, but still be clueless on its construction - lol Again, nice work, love the visuals too.
An accidental, magical find! I've embedded your piece on our band myspace site (www.myspace.com/thecolinsofparadise) for the nourishment of the huddled masses. They'll have to switch us off whilst they watch - but that's OK by us!
Great video. Congrats for the massive work you put into. That is a nice place you chose , symmetric. I accidentally went once to a sound art exhibition and they had similar sound effects. That happened in Sibiu, Romania. I encourage you to put your show live somewhere, many ppl will appreciate the idea.
Thanks to you all ! Especially Rannou for having me connected to so many my space pages. It's just a pity that you didn't connect the same video posted on aniboom.com/video/304505/Modules/
because I'm trying desperately to win 50K $ in the aniboom contest. ;p

Nice work on the post production (which I wonder, can no one really see at first sight?) ;)..

Now I will have at least two things I will go with for all of my life. :)
excellent execution.
no i dont look so clever.
so you made the lights with fx or just used the after effects to sequence footage?
the slow fade on some of the lights kinda gives it away.
I used halos in after effects for those windows which were overexposed in the photos.
