This is a great video. It is so much more enjoyable watching footage from DLSR cameras that do not include bokeh overkill or videos 2 seconds in length. D'you know what I mean?

Great vid plus love the color grading
    Which lenses did you use
    thanks
  • Bernie Hipos 3 months ago
As per Jason, there was no golor grading done on this one and they used available lights only. Amazing quality isn't it? I'm definitely getting one once it's available.

    Excellent work with the 7d.

At the end of the day filming is about pace, shot variety and storytelling. It is All here in this short video.

I f you are interested in A DSLR 7d everything you need to know is here. (Mine is on order! Sadly, I cannot order talent!)

Bernie, I know it might be silly but I find it confusing that so many people use DSLRs to make shorts with.
I never thaught DSLR would be used for making docs!
I've been experimenting with DSLR lenses in front of conventional videocamera's and realy starting to get into it.

I checked out the specs and even though it compresses to H. 264quicktime it still looks ok, max file size 4gig max film duration 29min.
And what about the sound? You use a DATrecorder?

I love what you did there, realy nice short :)

Far and away the best thing out for the 7d so far. Hell, it's just one of the best short docs on this site period. I don't know if you used a crane or a ferris wheel but that move was a nice addition.

I love cameras as much as anyone else, but it amazes me that the only thing that is getting any attention here is the technology. How about the story? Pictures have no meaning without a story to tell. This is amazing from a storytelling standpoint! All I could think about after my first viewing was where is the rest of it? I really would like to see more of this story. Very well done.

wow this is so good! i was wondering, are the 7D files .MOV files? and if so, what did you do/use to edit them in Premiere? thank you so much because i am having a hard time editing the footage i gor from a 5D.
  • Bob Nicolas plus 3 months ago
transcode your files to a format that is native on your editng program. procoder3 for example can convert .MOV h264 files to the most common formats for editing :)

great, great visual and also very strong reportage style!
however, as 5d2 owner i must admit, that theres no comparing IQ between ISO over 800...honestly i was just checking footage, after today fresh testing 7D...you did some good job with converting it to 720p, once again amazing vid!

  • Jon Chema 2 months ago
Wow! Awesome job man! Love every one of your shots and how you cut them together. I'm shocked that you used no additional lighting. Just out of curiousity, what country was this filmed in? and also, was your mic mounted on the camera or were you using a boom pole. and finally, what lenses were you using? I'm concidering the 7D body with a 50mm prime to start off, shoulder mount kit, FF, and XLR converter.

    Fantastic!

I was wondering how you managed NOT to have jello footage on those moving shots? and no aliasing...can you please explain?
I am seriously thinking about getting one of these.

    Thanks

No body mentioned about the heating issue with the Pre launched versions. I realize that it's not a good video camera out there. it has it's limitations. Can't shoot continuous due to heating. Jello Effect on fast pans, But it's a great still camera and a "hobby video camera", not a pro for a client base projects.
  • Podratic plus 30 days ago
It seems that there are pros out there that would disagree. It may not be for everybody, but money is being mad from the 7D and the clients appear to be happy.

Beautiful footage! I noticed that there is no motion blur on the daylight footage which tells me that your shutter speed setting is way faster the 1/30th of a second that a film camera would have.

I just purchased the 7D along with the 50mm f/1.4 lens and neutral density filters to allow my shutter and aperture to be fixed.

I am also purchasing Premiere CS4 (Windows). Will the 7D mov clips play natively on the timeline or will they need to be converted?
  •
  • onjoFilms 26 days ago
After a month or so of research I've leaned away from the 5D II toward the 7D. Mostly because of the frame rate. And partly because the quality seems to be indistinguishable.
