    youre mother looks great! you can give the layers to your friends to start their own batch...or just toss them. I read a recommendation of discarding the darker, older mother as the white top layers are the newer, most healthy parts. Good job!

    we're going to have 2 large batches going and then toss our momma.

    she looks gnarly.

    is there such thing as having a "too big" patty? because the jars we chose to use are kind of big and i'm worried my friends will have smaller ones.

    You can compost the mothers. I guess if your friends had a smaller jar, they could cram the mother down in it and then it would make a new jar-sized mother floating at the top.

    That looks like a pretty healthy mother! I usually just make as many batches as possible and discard the mothers I don't need. Those are awesome jars btw, where did you get those?

    they're pasta jars.
    it's not what i wanted, but we happened upon them

    i wish i had taller ones.
    these make only 3 bottles of booch each
