Excerpts from "101 Ways to Retire—or Not", a documentary video by Sue Prelgut & Christopher Julian, by permission of the producer.

These excerpts were shown at the memorial service of Ben Nichols, former democratic socialist mayor of the City of Ithaca, N.Y., educator par excellance, engineer, administrator, champion of the disenfranchised and staunch ally in numerous struggles for social justice in our schools, community, workplaces, and around the world. Ben never retired from his activism, and his continued presence is very much felt in the community.

I feel lucky to have been at the right place at the right time (and on the right side of the fence) to document one of the many memorable moments of his activism, in this instance to save Red Bud Woods, which is highlighted in Sue Perlgut and Christopher Julian's documentary.

Ben's family has establish a blog --Stories about Ben Nichols-- at bennichols.wordpress.com. You can view a trailer and find out more about the documentary "101 Ways to Retire --or Not!" at 101waystoretireornot.com.
