Footage from the HV20 by itself, then with the Canon WD-H43, the Canon TL-H43, and the Century Optics DS-FEWA-37 Mark II 0.3x Ultra Fish-eye Adapter Lens. FYI, if you plan on purchasing a Mark II lens, you will need a 43 to 37mm stepdown ring.

Try not to focus on the text - It seems to be very distracting.

It was -31 Celsius (-38C with the slight wind chill). Glad the plastic camera didn't shatter like one of my lens caps did.

By Mark II do you mean the DSLR lens? I see there's chromatic aberration with those shots.
  • markusarulius 2 years ago
No it is the Century Optics DS-FEWA-37 Mark II 0.3x Ultra Fish-eye Adapter Lens. It's intended for smaller video cameras. Basically if you are a skater (skateboarder) you will recognize this lens from almost every skate video made after 1989. There are serious color aberrations in the outer region of the image. I had to zoom into get past minor vignetting when you are at maximum wide angle with this lens. I think this makes the colors fall off register at the edges. That said, this lens is really best suited to action sports, small spaces, or to make your subject look pimpin'. So the scene in my example was not the best.

Thanks for Putting this Up Mark,
Where did you get the Mark II 0.3x Ultra Fish-eye lens? was it expensive?
    Thanks:)
  • markusarulius 2 years ago
Tiago, I got it from B&H. I'd say yeah it was expensive ($325). You can find them for just under $300 from other stores, but I ordered it with all of the other lenses and it was cheaper to have it shipped together. Don't forget if you are putting it on an HV20 you need a 43 to 37mm step down ring.

i just ordered a 0.7x and a 0.3x 2400mah battery and a show boom mic with wind breaker, its my second time ordering from adorama.com, 1st time i ordered my steadicam merlin, i find i save money ordering from the states instead of Canada. BTW love the comparison video!

Thanks for this video dude! I'm still not sure wether to get the WD-H43, the raynox hd-6600 0.66x, or just a Nikon 28mm wide lens to use with my 35mm adapter. Any thoughts?

    Once again, great vid.

what kind of step ring are you using with the baby death? you seemed to have less vig while maintaning a lot of width.
  • markusarulius 10 months ago
i'm using the 43-37 step down ring. actually i'm pretty disappointed with the baby death. it was designed for standard def 4:3 camcorders and not HD 16:9. i zoom in a little to get rid of most of the vig but its not good enough for me to be fully satisfied with the $300+ cost. there are also severe color aberrations in the outer regions of the image that make the image quality look bunk. you can see in this vid how crappy it looks: vimeo.com/1861784

Thanks for braving the cold and posting this video! I'm looking at buying the Canon TL-H43 ... it looks pretty impressive from your video.

Do you find that you use this lens much?

    Thanks again!

I like to use this lens for almost all indoor shooting. Family stuff and so on. For outdoors its just wide enough to open things up.. but not so wide the distortion gets in the way. I use it very often.
