Tonight (last night... the night before last.. I can't say which night) was the the beginning of Basel Fasnacht.

Fasnacht starts at three in the morning when the lights go out on the old medievil town. We were standing in front of my Grand dad's old bakery (long after he'd died) and you march behind the lanterns and the lighted masks till dawn and through the morning and past the afternoon; fueled on white wine, beer, and a special flour soup and onion tart.
