33 Years of My American Ties is a digital video animation I created for a gallery show during the fall of 2006. The show was at the Museum of Art in the Kresge Art Center at Michigan State University. The opening of the show coincided with House and Senate National elections. I used this as an opportunity to expand the visual language of my work into a form of political satire.

At the time, there seemed to be a large increase in displaying 'patriotism'. I had seen several people in public wearing American flag apparel, including neckties that I found disturbing. I proceeded to track down the neckties and purchase them, the ties then became the source for several projects.

This work was created through a use of time lapse video capturing where I put on several shirts and ties during a 3 hour period, then condensed the footage down into this work. The audio was recorded by randomly flipping through the major new stations after midnight a few weeks before the election. I edited the audio and combined it with the video to create this political narrative.
